I hope you're joking, but if you're not I'm sorry I'm so hit or miss at following up on this site. I always appreciate and respect your posts, opinions and experience.

the yankees are definately far from out of it. Baseball is a game of bad luck often times and they're just getting their share of it early on. I bet that by the end of August they'll be neck and neck with Boston. They've got that japanese pitcher who smoked the sox a while back...he's down in the minors getting fine tuned but you can be sure he'll be back and in top form soon enough.

        • Wakefield weather

...you know, last night was not wake's weather for pitching. He needs nasty weather to pitch effectively...last night was absolutely beautiful weather--dry, no breeze, warm. He shoulda stayed in the bullpen charqoaling burgers and let someone else pitch.

Pretty soon the Sox will have the luxury of too many good pitchers and they'll be able to pop wake into the lineup only on inclement or unsettled weather days. Heavy humidity, misty, windy, cold, ie lousy baseball weather but great knuckle-balling weather.

                I don't believe you...manny would never hustle to 1st.

Hey, why can't we have a manny face instead of a cramer one?

I hope that series in NY taught the Sox a lesson in humility...they probably needed one. I have to admit that I'm worried about Schilling a little...is he on his way down or just having a bad outing? I do know from experience that you can't be on top of your game every outing....somedays that catcher's mitt looks as big as a barn, other days it as tiny as a tick.

Thirty one years after dropping out of the College to form a small computer company, William H. Gates III returned to Harvard today to at long last collect a degree, a Doctor of Laws, not the humble A.B. he would have gotten had he hung around one more year. Soreheads were quick to point out its an honorary, not an earned degree, but what the hay, he's done fairly well over the years.

Is Harvard for Sale? Maybe Bill should buy it.

We do have some really neat old buildings and a marvelous stretch along the river.

I equate an "Honorary Degree" to one of those "Participation" trophies they give away to everyone who's parents pay the 50 bux to let their kid play in Little League.

I figure theres's various types. You can recognize some poet or classical musician who might never otherwise be recognized. Or a Nelson Mandela type. Or a politician who wants to give speeches and, who knows, might reciprocate in some way. Or some industry fat cat who might or has given money. Or Curt Schilling. Or Bill Lee, who has been so honored though not by us.

Bill "Spaceman" Lee , known for his Eephus pitch once ran for president and had a song written about him by Warren Zevon. The Eephus pitch, invented by Rip Sewell in the 1930's was virtually unhitable until Ted Williams hit a home run off Sewell after Sewell told him he was going to throw it in the 1946 all star game. Maybe they have a video of it on You tube. It was an awesome hit if you ever get a chance to see it.
