I like playing basketball but can't stand watching it on TV...I did go to one celtics game back when Bird et al were playing...that was fun. I find most sports hard to watch (too boring) on tv except football and boxing.

I don't care for hoop either. All through my school days people asked if I played cuz I'm tall for a girl. Drove me crazy. I enjoy chicks' tennis and golf. I could watch Annika Sorenstam all day long.

Current hot topic on EEI is whether the Celts are deliberately tanking it, after blowing a 15 pt lead to one of the poorest NBA teams and do the Bs have playoff caliber goaltending (consensus: no).

I think you are right on, but just a tad early. Do you set stops on SPY? I was wondering where you think support would be. I forget the percentage of the S&P that is oil related, but it is significant.

No, I didn't set a stop. In part because the S&P on down days doesn't usually take near the beating QQQQ, IWO, et c. do. No such luck today. We'll see what happens early in the AM. I did notice rates were sneaking up there and I noted yesterday that the lack of upside as oil declined troubled me but I was still blindsided by today.

Hmm. Was just a tad early. At any rate my VLO calls are coming back this week. Continued cold weather is predicted and VLO has held up pretty well relative to the price of oil. Earnings are due 2/1 and should be decent.

Put a little money into SPY this AM to have a few more bucks at work. Seasonal trend is usually good though it still worries me that the market did little while oil prices were hitting the skids. But this AM was afraid I'd get left at the station like I did last August. We shall see. Tempus fugit, veritas, et c.

yes he is one of the best def. backs I've seen in a while. But he too let up after that brilliant pic and td. Their secondary looks pretty solid all things considered, as does their def. line, one of the best. Their weakness is their linebackers and receivors IMO, but that was pretty obvious in the last few games.

Next year it will be the colts (after winning the big one) that lose some valuable players and have to rebuild from scratch....no team is in a better position to dominate next year than the pats.

Is it too early to talk about the red sox?

Assante Samuel is ridiculously good...the Pats must SIGN HIM NOW!

Bill Burt is reporting definitively that they will franchise him. there's been considerable conjecture about it.

well, maybe next year. The pats lost that game, not only by caldwell droppping that gift of a pass, but by letting up and letting the colts walk back into the game. Coulda been the flu, but I think it had more to do with the huge lead going into half-time and they just quit, thinking they had the game wrapped up because they just figured they'd win like they always did in these games with the colts.

Next year, if the pats get rid of bruschi and vrabel (I'll be very sorry to see them go but they're getting on in years and have lost too much speed) and replace them with some faster, stronger linebackers, and of course dump caldwell who is obviously not cut out for the big games. The pat have some absolutely great young players who will carry them onto the next level of greatness. Oh yeah, Dillon is past his prime too.

Colts will beat the bears (by a very small margin) but I'm pulling for da bears...

..........snip......I picked up some March calls on VLO today. Its supposed to get cold starting next week so mayhap oil will head up thus VLO.

I'd root against Manning no matter who he was playing against. I took it on the chin with both games last week but I'm taking the 7 points with the bears. I think they will come to play their brand of defense. They stopped the Saints cold in their tracks.

Its strange. Last week it looked like the Pats were cooked early against SD, this week I thought they had it made early, just hand the ball to Dillon and let him eat up the clock. No such luck.

I'll take Indy. I dont know a great deal about the NFC but Chicago did look pretty good beating up NO early which was the only part I watched. Around these parts lots of people figure the Super Bowl was played last night in Indy. We'll see but Manning came thru big yesterday so I wouldn't bet against him. I don't know about their defense though, which some say is much improved. They gave up 34 yesterday.

IF the Bears beat Indy, the Super Bowl was played Feb. 4. I think Bears may do it, too. Depends upon which quarterback shows up for the Bears.
