    I like your new rules with just one suggestion: Pick of the Month instead of Pick of the Week.
    Seconded! We have a pick of the week, and a pick of the year. A pick of the month would fit perfectly, for those with a more mid-range target...

      I was afraid of this degenerating into a debate about rules. If someone else would like to take the ball and run with it, feel free. My offer is withdrawn.

            Rob.... Why not just implement the contest and see if you get your desired participation? Several have already expressed interest. Just because a few have different "ideas" shouldn't be cause for you to withdraw the contest.... imho

              I am way too busy. I will withdraw my suggestion. Rob is the man for the job. Whatever the man wants is fine with me.

                    You got that right. As it is, the POTW scorekeeper already has to track up to 104 picks per year per player (10,300% more than in the yearly contest). If five trades per week were allowed, that number would increase to 260. Also, getting opening and closing prices is a breeze. Tracking those trades during market hours are what take more time and effort. Lyehopper knows first-hand what I'm talking about, having done it himself. (I am not here trying to discourage anyone from making trades during the day; it's part of the game.)

                      I made the original request with a bit of trepidation. I didn't wish to become embroiled in making defenses for the reasoning behind the rules as I thought they should be. But at the same time I thought it would be a fun contest, and my enthusiasm to start it was greater than my hesitancy to do so, a situation that no longer exists.

                        Rob, that is a pity, but I am the last one to urge you into another commitment. In my opinion there are two ways to handle such a competition, from the point of view of an organizer:
                        - This is my contest; these are my rules;
                        - I really like to discuss the logic of my choices and perhaps even change a detail or so, but this is my contest and these are my rules.

                        I would like the new setup better than the current one, but I am prepared to be happy with either or both, as you see fit. And thank you for keeping up the POTW!

                        Regards,

                        Karel

                          The only practical structure under which a contest like this can be run successfully is a "benevolent dictatorship," unless the individual running it actually enjoys debating back-and-forth about the rules. That's why I said, ‘if someone wants to take it, go for it.’

                            You're welcome, Karel. There are times that I feel like letting it go, though I really don't want to.

                            By the way, maybe we don't say it enough, but thank you for moderating these boards.

                              Rob,

                              I'm actually kind of glad you're not doing another weekly contest. Although a second contest would be fun, I'm sure, I'd really hate to see you burn out and quit doing the POTW, because with you running it, it's been fantastic! Keep it up, and THANKS SO MUCH!!!

                                Thank you too, Rob! I really like it, when I have enough time, that is. Quite now I am bit too busy to really enjoy it, following the discussions and so on, but I still like it.
