    Stenzrob brought this fine specimen back to shore with him:

    that looks like a giant grouper, or commonly called a Jew fish. I used to see those in the Fulton fish market 20 years ago, but now they're pretty rare. IN fact, grouper is getting pretty rare these days.

    I love those fishing pictures...I went fishing in SC a few months ago and caught a 20 lb. striper...man what a fight!

      I beg to differ...Groupers are very common here in Florida, and the Jew Fish, which is now called a Goliath Grouper are also common.

      Goliaths are on the banned list for recreational fishing, but their numbers have grown so large that fishermen can't catch other types of Grouper for catching Goliaths.

      The government conducts their studies about fish stocks and come up with new rules and regulations. Most of the time their information is way off base and the rules they create are crazy. They are now claiming that Red Snappers are becoming scarce, which is very odd. Myself or any charter boat captain can tell you that there are plenty of Red Snapper on the reefs.

      I'm all for fishing rules, but not ones that don't make sense... whew...I feel better now that I got that off my chest...jejeje

        Nope. That fish is no Jew. But the story behind it is interesting to evolutionists. This critter goes by another name, "The Living Fossil"

        It can be found in the deep trenches off the coast of Madagascar, if memory serves me right. I read an article about the species on a flight to Birmingham, AL. I think it was US Airways, or it could be Southwest, but that was the best article in the whole seat-back magazine. Ugly suckers, but did you notice how it seems to be smiling for the picture?

        The fish is a coelacanth

          Skiracer loves to catch stripers. He said he'd send me a mess of fillets for another taste of "The GoJi".... Might take him up on that.

              Yes, it is a very interesting fish. Not the only "living fossil" (see the list at Wikipedia - Living fossil), but certainly the most spectacular, because of the absence of fossils over some 80 million year.

              BTW, for the POTW my aim as a vegetarian is to finish fourth this week.

                            using the cash

                            I have found a worthy candidate in HRT. I will go long for a while... maybe even the end of the week with it, but don't get your hopes up.

                            • This should be the extent of the bounce after last week's selloff. 2400 looks like resistance for the nasdaq to me. I really believe that there will be another drop to test the lows of the selloff. Hoping that this will happen beginning later today and continuing through Friday,
                              I will take a long position in QID here.
