Our politicians have seen it fit and wise to spend $1 million more per second! than our government takes in. And that is "on budget." There is "off budget" spending that we do not know about. Incredible!

Face it: a total collapse has to come, and probably sooner than later.
Peanuts, how can you say "buy, buy, buy" in these economic conditions?

This must be in reference to a post on Rob's Lobs: post link

To answer your "buy, buy, buy" question- purchasing power parity rates will return to a level that is more in line with historic trends. Whether that means Americans are paid more, or goods become cheaper on a global scale is yet to be determined. I would think that US corporations which export will be raising prices of overseas goods and services to combat a falling dollar. This, in turn, will support trade balancing and return strength to the growth rate of the economy.

Did you realize that the US economy is still growing? It has been the rate of which that has declined. Are you suggesting a growing economy is bad?

I do not suggest a growing economy is bad. I do suggest that the chumps/crooks who run the mortgage and banking systems are bad.

          Newborn,
they are a bunch of crooks but I have to agree with Peanuts position. He has is right and the US is not ever going to relinquish the "strongest nation on the planet" designation without a fight. We make the state of the art products and then farm them out to the cheapest maker. As the 3rd world countries come into higher standards of living the US will be at the forefront of selling them the products they need to emulate the US. I hate the "chumps/crooks" as much as you do but I think the only avenue is to try to put your money where they do as they do.

            From an article published today:

"...Workers with jobs saw brisk wage growth.

Average hourly earnings rose to $17.63 in November, a 0.5 percent increase from the prior month. That marked the biggest monthly gain since June. The only other time the monthly gain was higher was in October 2005. Economists were expecting a more moderate rise of 0.3 percent. Over the past 12 months, wages grew by 3.8 percent.

Solid wage growth supports consumer spending, a vital ingredient to a healthy economy. But a sustained and rapid pickup in wages -- if not blunted by other economic forces -- can stoke inflation, which can eat into any wage gains.

Overall, the employment and wage figures were encouraging because they suggested the labor market is not cracking under all the strains plaguing the economy..."
