 CALM--nice move upward today

I got in on this one on 11/10/03 at a price of 14.88. It's an interesting stock in that it's the leader in the sector and the Adkins diet I'm sure is helping boost the demand on eggs. Their earnings potential seems great. Today it's made a nice upward move (more than 15 percent). It still looks like this one has room to go up, but do your own research before buying in.

Cal-Maine terminates plan to go private
Thursday November 6, 2:57 pm ET

NEW YORK, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Egg company Cal-Maine Foods Inc.
(NasdaqNM:CALM - News) said on Thursday its board voted to terminate
its previously announced going private transaction.
The current unanticipated level of egg prices, which are at near
record highs, and recent increases in the price and activity in the
company's common stock make it extremely difficult to establish a
share price that would be to fair all parties, the company said.

Cal-Maine is primarily engaged in the production, grading, packing
and sale of fresh shell eggs, and is the largest producer and
distributor of fresh shell eggs in the U.S.

Shares of Cal-Maine were halted at $10.62, up 7.7 percent on Nasdaq.

No analyst coverage to screw things up.

Volume starting to come into this stock, as it gets discovered.

They claim in supertraders that eggs prices are benefitting from the
 atkins' diet craze.

 Vish,
I have been in and out of this one with some very nice gains. Have any thoughts or opinions on where the top might be. Some of the charts I look at looks like it could be headed down, but it just has so much momentum and the whole adkins thing is huge in this country. Nice call and thanks for the heads up on this one.

I really am not sure how long I will hold on to this one. BUT...all I know is that when I do get lucky enough to be able to buy this type of stock I almost always sell too early. My new rule of thumb is don't sell it until you can find something BETTER to invest in. My honest analysis seems to indicate that this stock still has some room to go. Apparently it was mentioned today in IBD. There is still no analyst coverage and volume is really starting to pick up (indicating probable interest by institutions).

I really have no "target" price that I will sell at. I probably will just wait around and see what happens. Earnings are coming out on Dec 19th and all indications seem to point to good things ahead. Take a look at the message board on yahoo for this stock; it's one of the few that seems to be filled with some very intelligent posts. People there are indicating that 6 dollars a share in earnings is not out of line. If that's the case, I see myself holding on for the ride. We'll see I guess.

 This thing is crazy

 Vish,
I got in at 24.55. This thing is going crazy, some are saying poss. earnings leak!? This is going to be a great xmas. What are your thoughts on the Flu vaccine shortage. They say it takes 4 months to make it. Do you think this will have a positive impact on CALM.

 Re: This thing is crazy

As far as the flu vaccine shortage goes, I think it would be a benefit to CALM. The only problem is that it would NOT be of benefit until later on in 2004. It's too late now to begin making the vaccine for this season. It takes one egg to make one dose of flu vaccine. There is a company right now trying to make an egg-less flu vaccine, but it looks like it's years away. See the following link:Originally posted by IamOrionVish,

As far as the stock goes, I'm just holding for now. I think it will probably pull back soon though (it's overdue).

 I should buy and hold.

This stock has more potential, seems to be an EPS winner. JMHO.

Somebody say that it will be entered CANSLIM or IBD100 list, any positive effect ?

 CALM up big....again!

Wow....up another 7 percent today. Incredible. The company was added to the IBD 100 (at number 52 I believe) and I think we are seeing the positive impact of this today. I'm still holding from my buy of 14.88 (see earlier post from Nov 13th). I'm hoping to squeeze a little bit more out of this one but don't want to get too greedy.
