No trades today...After months of consideration...testing...back-testing etc... I am making some major changes in my trading/investing style...Been a little gut wrenching since I love day trading and I've done pretty well at it over the past coupla years percentage wise...But I will be concentrating on some other things...I'll let 'ya know how it all pans out...I will still DT when I come across a "Screaming Buy" like ACOR yesterday...But I'm switching my emphasis to Intermediate Term... notably QLD and QID...Doug(IIC)

    • Drastic steps, you say

You seem to be talking about a drastic adjustment to your thinking. What circumstances have brought this about? Are you talking about trying to remedy some kind of disconnect between your thinking and your results in the market? Help us out here a little...

It is a time thing or lack thereof...I have a goal of where I want to be at age 62. I really don't have to average that much over the next 9 years to achieve it. Of course, if I can do better... then great.

I have a well paying job which I'm not about to quit to daytrade. I'm up pretty good this year on dt's even though it seems that I've been penny pinching them for the last few months. I took a major hit on WITS in my longer termers though. But to effectively dt the way I know how, it really requires me to be f/t...I miss out on too many because of time.

Anyway, this is nothing new and I'm not just looking at those 2 etfs...but I will be concentrating on Intermediate Index direction...This will also give me time to work on other projects I have in the works that are in various states of disarray...Doug(IIC)

I sit in the office trailer all day long with two screens running and have plenty of time to swing trade and an occassional daytrade and plenty of research and scans but realistically to daytrade you really have to be able to devote all your time and energy to watching those screens. I can appreciate your evaluation of your situation and have to give you credit for admitting that and looking for an alternative to what you have been doing. Why don't you try swing trading. You've got your scans and your lists. It's just a matter of finding the best setups within those lists which still takes alot of time. I'm up at 4am and do stocks scans, research, etc. for about 2 1/2 hrs each morning so as to not take away quality time from my wife and other family and home responsiblilities. At night I give it another hour or so and some time on this forum pretty much takes it all up but you have to spend some time with the wife and kids. With all that I'm up to 11:30/12. Only sleep about 4 hours a day. I wish someone would develope a pill where you wouldn't have to sleep and keep the markets open 24 hrs. around the clock.
My wife says I should just move into the trailer but just make sure I send her the check every week so she can shop and keep things going.

As I recall...you are self-employed???...Big Difference if my memory serves me correct...Even in the early morn when I'm still at home my cell is usually ringing. I will still buy regular stocks...But when I day or swing oftentimes I buy one's that don't meet all my criteria...But those are usually with less funds vis-a-vis the ones that do. But I will work on waiting for the ones I REALLY like and the ETF's...Heck, if it doesn't work...I'm flexible...I'll change if necessary...This will really be a test of my patience/discipline if nothing else...And I don't see a whole lot of risk here...Doug(IIC)

Your welcome on the GIGM play. That's what it is all about in my opinion. Trying to give everyone here some decent plays or at least food for thought. Everyone is going to do what they want to do and what is best for them anyway. I think it's great that you at least read the posts and give them some consideration. Thanks.
If you are interested in trading or making some plays with the ETF's you should take a look at www.morpheustradinggroup.com site. Deron Wagner puts out a daily ETF report and swing trades them with great success. I have been a subscriber for a couple of years now and you know the rest as I have posted about him and his site on several occassions. Try the free 1 month trial. It's worth trying and the Wagner Daily, which is the daily ETF report, is only $49.95 a month. If you don't make more than that with his plays you're not reading them correctly.

                            Doug,

I have a question for you and anyone that would like to answer. I am fairly new to investing but have been doing research for over a year. I recently shorted DGX after it's drop at 50.53. I see that it might be exhibiting a dead-cat bounce chart pattern. I have read that many analysts think it will regain it's loss in the next 2-4 weeks, but I feel that it's earnings report will not be enough to lift the stock back to it's previous levels. Am I in over my head? Should I get out of the short now?

Maybe someone else, like Spike or Runner, can you give you a technical take. But some of the technicals indicate to me that it already hit rock bottom.

However, it has now filled the gap from last April. I think the main reason it is bouncing now is because of what some of those analysts you mention are saying including an upgrade to BUY from Jeffries which also raised its target to 60. But analyst actions usually affect price movement for a very short term (That's why I held ABAX yesterday...It simply responded to a negative action by dropping back to its base a day after the break out).

Cramer (Who changes w/ the wind on DGX) says DGX is pricing itself out of the market...I don't know if that is true, but if it is and they lose another major contract this thing is toast IMO...But that is a big "if" and that may take months to find out.

There is a lot to digest here...But w/o reading all these articles...My gut is that your trade is too risky here. The last hour was encouraging for you on Friday...but if it starts moving up again on Monday(I'd give it 45 mins) I would say "cover"...Good Luck...Doug
