I watch these for gaps...then pullbacks and consol on low vol...then wait for a second move on vol(if it happens)

Missed Today...Had to go to Costa Mesa for an early meeting...In looking at my Early Watch I see CWTR as the only possibility for maybe a 4% gain if my timing had been right.

In case anyone wonders what the heck I'm doing...Since February I have been studying some daytrading methods. Since I work F/T there's only so much I can do...so I want to keep it FAST and SIMPLE. In June I started making a few trades here and there...OK results....made a bit.

But anyway, I continued working on my plan, making adjustments and actually just started this week. Basically, I'm identifying stocks that will gap up in the morning(news related and pre-mkt movers) and I'm including others that are "potential" gaps.

After the market opens I find others that gapped on volume that were not on my list.

After 7am I am watching for pullbacks and consolidations on lower vol...then I wait to see if another move on volume occurs past the opening range or an earlier mini-consolidation point. If I catch it I will buy and ride it with a trailing stop of approx. 2%(This will vary according to the price) as it goes up. If it does not go up real quick after I buy then I'll just dump it. If it heads down I'll try to sell ASAP with a loss of no more than 1%. Although I lost 1.2% on ESMC yesterday due to the lag. So far this week excl. commish, I lost 1.2%, made 1 cent, broke exactly even, made 4.45% and made 5.7%...not a long track record...I'll let you know after 500 trades.

Also during the day I will watch the strongest movers in the strongest and weakest groups for 2nd moves regardless of whether or not they gapped at the open.

Anyway, there's more to it but just in case you noticed a difference...now you know. I will concentrate on this for the rest of the year and work on refining it...IIC

PS: In case any of you real detailed people wonder why I sold ADEX yesterday when it was only 3 cents under the day's high at the time...it was because I had to leave to go to work...That worked out better because it went down 2.5% before it moved back up...but I think the hardest thing about this will be interference from my job.

IIC, I applaud you for the fine research. You certainly have more energy than this old dude. This market thing can be figured out and you'll be one of the few that will do it.

Thank you billyjoe...I've been working on this quite a while...gathering ideas and info...I started swing trading last year...before that I was more of an Intermediate-Term 30-180 day guy. Was a pretty strict Canslimmer from the 70's to mid '00...We'll see...I'll be around...But I don't really envision a great risk here...even if it doesn't pan out...Best, IIC

                            Day Trading

                            IIC,

Thank you for posting your current daytrading method. I wish you much success. I would like to ask you to keep us informed with any developements and changes in strategy. If you hit upon a successful system, of course I'd like to know about it.

I have done some daytrading. Truthfully, the current market is so skittish that I quit U.S. stocks after May 10th. I have invested in foreign stocks and found that market much calmer, more predictable, more stable and more profitable. But I expect I'll come back when this market gains a measure of stability.

                              Lost 1/3% on ALDN.

Overall, 3 up 4 dn and 1 break even on Daytrades this week. Avg gain 1% ea. However, since all trades were not of equal $ amts...the gain for the week was a shade over 6% incl. commish.

Will be interesting to see after 100 trades.

In my first Daytrading ONLY week I did OK...been reviewing my mental errors...there were a few. All but one actually worked in my favor...but, that's not what I want to do. I made 8 daytrades this week...3 up 4 dn 1 even.

Overall, excl. commish I made 7.997% taking the % gain/loss of each trade and adding it up. If I take the total price of the buys I made... 1.4% incl. commish on the total $ amt...but I used the same money multiple times. If I take the avg. $ amt. per trade and use my overall profit minus commish I made 6.24% for the week.

But realistically, I should take my total portfolio amount that I alloted to this. Then take my gain minus commish...divide it by what I started with and it comes out to +5.38%.

Still working on this and I will for quite some time unless I lose my shirt. If and when I get comfortable with this I will use margin...IIC
