Ended up trading QID 4x today...I just watched the NDX, Q's Top Naz 100 heavyweights, market movers list and the QID 1 min. technicals...When they all seemed to come together I bot...ended up buying the same number of shs each time for an overall 1.45 sh gain.

Well...I only ended up with 10% of the shares I had originally tried to buy...I sort of forgot about it till the end of the day. Announces tomorrow and since I have so few shares I decided to roll the dice and hold over...The 10 Q came out this evening...not impressive and down quite a bit a/h

For those wondering...In the past I usually day traded in my cash/margin account and never had a problem. I also have 3 tax accounts where there are limits on day trading. I periodically made dt's in them always using settled funds and always buying/selling the whole thing at one shot.
In my cash account I started trimming a ways back on dt's...In the tax accounts my trims were usually days apart.

Anyway...recently, due to market conditions I have also been day trading in tax accounts trying to not exceed the dt limit in 5 days...So I had a question:

If I buy a stock in a tax account in the morning and trim half that same day and sell the rest later the SAME DAY does that count as one day trade or two? (I'm only using settled funds in the tax accounts)
Took a couple of emails to ST to finally get them to stop sending me CANNED responses about settled funds and Reg T...But this is the outcome in case anyone is interested:

If you buy 100 ABC stock in the morning and later that day sell 50 ABC and then later that day sell the remaining 50 ABC, this is one day
trade.

If you buy 50 ABC and buy 50 more ABC and then later than same day sell 100 ABC, this is two day trades. Any closing transaction that closesout any portion up to all of an opening transaction will be counted as a day trade.

I really don't know what the penalty would be if you made 4 dt's in a tax account within 5 days...They can't take away your margin because you don't have any...I guess they could only allow you to trade with settled funds for 90 days...But that's what I want to do anyway in tax accounts and if you have plenty of settled cash it really doesn't matter...I will admit that once I sold a stock bot with unsettled funds right away because it was tanking...It was LCAV for those with a great memory...But it was in my wife's IRA...so she got in trouble...Not Me...LOL...However, the trouble was only a nasty email saying something to the effect that you better not do that again.

Anyway...I think this unsettled funds thing is bogus...When I used to be in 11 forums I tried to organize a protest...But got nowhere...Although I really didn't try that hard...Oh well...Doug(IIC)

My site is not PRO or CON China...But sometimes I wonder why some of the China stuff I try to post completely messes up my site??? And I have to delete it and spend hours with tech support to get my site back to normal.
