NUS ==> The Organic Gardening Winner

(Full disclosure, I bought this stock back in 2004 and I enjoyed the write up back then, so I am using some of it again).

A couple of years, after I just graduated from college, a bunch of my friends flew down to Mobile, Alabama to attend G-berg’s wedding. Although we were greeted with all kinds of southern hospitality, the prevailing theme of our hosts was, “Those boys from Pennyslvania just ain’t right.” What we found particularly interesting was that G-berg’s future brother-in-law had made a tidy sum of money selling Vitamins. He had a nice house, a fast car and could do a standing backflip. He was living like Rico Suave, in a Mobile, Alabama kind of way. That was 20 years ago. The rest of the world has caught on.

There is a wave coming over the Far East and it’s coming from the West. The East wants to be like the West. Beauty aids and diet supplements are growth industries in China, along with cell phones, cars and building materials. Everyone wants to be like the guy in the picture:

Seguro que han oído que yo soy educado
Soy un caballerito un chico bien portado
Un joven responsible y siempre bien vestido
Yo no se quien ha mentido

I don't drink or smoke ain't into dope
Won't try no coke, ask me how I do it, I cope
My only addiction has to do with the female species
I eat 'em raw like sushi

No me gustan ternos, mi estilo es moderno
Si me enterno, you me enfermo
Mi apariencia es dura, vivo en la locura
    No me vengan con ternuras

So please don't judge a book by its cover
There's more to being a latin lover
You got to know how to deal with a woman
    That won't let go
The price you pay for being a gigolo

There's not a woman that can handle
    A man like me
That's why I juggle two or three
I ain't one to commit, you can omit that bit
You pop the question that's it
Haber uno, dos, tres, cuatro mujeres
    Y la situaci?all?no muere
No es un delito calmo mi apetito
Con un llanto o un grito

So again don't let my lyrics mislead you
I don't love you but I need you
Would you rather have me lie
Take a piece of your pie and say bye
Or be honest and rub your thighs

Well, it's ten o'clock and I'm two hours late
I never said I was a prompt date
But you kept persisting that I meet your parents
Huh, they're going to love my appearance

    Ding dong el timbre suena
Tu madre abre, que vieja mas buena
Le digo ¡Hola! Pero no para bola
Que se ha creido vieja chola

Go and serve the food mom
    Que tengo ambre
If you don't hurry, me va a dar un calambre
Y usted señor? Why's your chin on the floor?
    Sierra la boca por favor

What's this amor, these little huevos?
    Esto s?que yo no pruebo

I'm used to good ol' fashioned
    Homestyle Spanish cooking
If i try that I'll be puking
Well it's been a pleasure but we got to go
    Regresaremos temprano
Cinco, seis, o siete de la mañana
Su hija esta en buenas manos

Yes, if everyone could be Rico Suave, wouldn’t the world be a much better place?

Today I bought NUS (Nu Skin Enterprises Company) at 87.51. I will sell it in 4 to 6 weeks at 101.17. Here’s why I like NUS:

NUS stock is up over 96% over the last 12 months yet its PE is only 22. Given the ease with which this company grows its revenues, it is completely reasonable to assume that this growth will continue at this multiple. Given NUS's strong growth prospects, the shares are attractively valued trading at a current P/E to growth ratio of 0.75, well below the average for the personal care universe.

The historical chart of the stock price confirms this, giving NUS a very high r^2 correlation coefficient over the last 12 months. That is amazingly consistent rock solid price momentum and progression.

Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. develops and distributes anti-aging personal care products and nutritional supplements under the Nu Skin and Pharmanex brands worldwide. It offers skin-care systems and treatment products, including ageLOC Galvanic Spa System, ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa, ageLOC Galvanic Spa Body Shaping Gel, ageLOC Dermatic Effects Body Contouring Lotion, and ageLOC Transformation anti-aging skin care system, as well as other cosmetic, personal, and hair care products. The company also provides LifePak, a line of micronutrient supplements that provide optimal levels of essential vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants; anti-aging nutritional supplements, such as ageLOC R2, which is designed to renew and recharge the body; and other anti-aging nutritional solutions and weight management products. Nu Skin Enterprises sells and distributes its products in North Asia, Greater China, the south Asia/Pacific, the Americas, and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As of December 31, 2012, it operated approximately 40 stores in China. The company was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Provo, Utah.

Utah Business Magazine recognized Nu Skin as being a “Best Company to Work For” in the larger company category for 2009 and 2010. Nu Skin was highlighted for its generous employee benefits and its uplifting, enriching culture that unites its worldwide employee force.

Nu Skin employees each year participate in a variety of events. From the beginning of the year starting out with a companywide kick off meeting, March Madness brackets, Easter Egg Hunt, Company BBQ’s, Summer Parties, 10 Year Club Event, Halloween Costume Contests, Christmas Party.

Happy employees are generally good employees, because the company takes care of them. How can the company afford to take care of them? They make money. How do they make money? They sell great products. I mean, they really SELL great products.

What Nuskin does better than anyone else in the world is to innovate in order to continually renew the vibrancy of the business proposition that they take to the world. Whether in their product lines, or in their sales compensation plan, or in their sales strategies, they continually seek to renew the viability of the opportunity that they promote.

One way that they do that better than any other company is through their products. From the very beginning, this has been an area where Nu Skin has continually distinguished itself. They have a rich legacy of demonstrating the difference of their products... there are simply none better.

Check out what Amy had to say:

    Amy November 14, 2012 at 3:11 pm
“…. it’s better if you check the science of NuSkin. I had the chance visiting their laboratory and was amazed at the 30 year research this company invested in discovering why and how we age. Search Youth Gene Cluster science to bring you to their website. I had Fibromyalgia after my accident 5 years ago. Lifepak Nano and Vitality of NuSkin helped me after trying all medicines such as Lyrica, Savella, Amitriptilin, etc. It’s been a year since I was taking these NuSkin products. I am managing my pain and fatigue. And I look younger too.”

    Here's another:

    Worth It and Then Some
"It's not often I will spend $150 for a serum, but if it did what it promised...it would be worth that and then some. Now that I have tried it, I have to say it's the best money I've ever spent on my face.”

    Age-loc
"I am excited to say that I have followed and have done research on this product and all of Nu Skin products. I am very impressed and will be meeting with a Rep tomorrow. The science can back alot of their claims.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it,but it takes time.
"I have been using the galvanic spa and gels for over a year, my skin has had a dramatic improvment. This is a product that will help your skin get better and better over time. You're not going to see dramatic results in a week, have patience it's worth it!!”

People want to look younger. Why? Don’t ask me. I’m 53 years old. I’m old. But I can still go to the gym and bench 315 lbs for multiple reps like it’s paper. So if some 40 yr old loser guy in the gym is worried about his wrinkly skin, I’m not going to ask THAT GUY to spot for me.

But the bottom line is, NuSkin sells these products and people are buying them because they want to look young. The stuff is really expensive, but there are people who say it really works. They are so vain they will keep wasting their kid’s college money on this stuff. Hey, that’s how the world turns.

Ok..this is good stuff, but why will NUS’ stock go up?

•Nu Skin leverages the direct selling channel to build a STRONG CONSUMER BASE and ACTIVE SALES NETWORK. The sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from a fixed retail location, marketed through independent sales representatives. The ADVANTAGES are person-to-person sales, ability to demonstrate and educate, it harnesses word of mouth advertising.

•AGELOC: a compelling product platform with a ROBUST PRODUCT PIPELINE. The breakout story of Ageloc is a collection of clinically proven weight management products. Yup…they are going after the endomorphs too!

•Operating margins have increased from 10% to 16% in five years.

•Experienced MANAGEMENT and SALES LEADERS driving GROWTH in every geographic region

•STRONG BALANCE SHEET and CASH FLOW

Once direct selling gets off the ground, revenues will really mushroom. Amway already does direct selling in China, Nu Skin will follow. There is serious growth in North and Southeast Asia. The company has increased its dividend from $0.20/share in 2001 to $1.20 share, a 1.4% yield. That’s a great dividend for a growth stock like this. This is a very significant source of revenue to shareholders and much evidence of management confidence.

Nu Skin has strung together six straight quarters of double-digit sales and earnings growth, thanks mainly to its business overseas. It has operations in more than 50 countries.
Last year, Asia, led by Japan and China, accounted for more than three-quarters of Nu Skin's revenue, thanks to the popularily of items designed to help people lose weight and look younger. Lose weight, look younger. Who doesn’t want that? Well, $$$MR. MARKET$$$ prefers to gain weight (muscle from the gym + Nitrotech of course) and I prefer to look my age. But for the rest of the world, I’ll take their money when they buy NuSkin products by buying this stock.

Of course, $$$MR. MARKET$$$ isn’t going to puss out and not make an earnings projection. ANAL-ysts have NUS earnings $5.15 for the full year 2013. $$$MR. MARKET$$$ is laughing like a hyena on bong hits. $$$MR. MARKET$$$ sees NUS earning $5.40/share in 2013 on revenues of $3,070 MM, which would be 41% growth over its 2012 revenues of $2,170 MM. How can it continue to do this? Start it off with its ROE of 38.1%, compared to the industry average of 13.8%. These guys know how to play the game and they kick buttocks.
Remember, the company itself said they would make $5.00/share on revenues of $2.86 billion in 2013 and…they ALWAYS beat expectations! What is it about the near term economy that makes you think this won’t happen again and again in the next few quarters?

So if you take my $5.40 and multiply it by the P/E of 22, that takes you to a share price of $118.80, which well exceeds my sell target.

The boss thinks so as well. Here’s a dog who really CAN hunt. Truman Hunt, president and chief executive officer:

"We generated record revenue of $683 million, which is an 18% increase in local currency, while increasing our earnings per share by 30% to $1.22. Given the strong growth we're seeing in our consumer base, which has continued through the month of July and is reflected in our active account number, we're also increasing, again, today our guidance for the remainder of the year. We now expect revenue to increase by 35% for the year with earnings up over 40% year-over-year.

As also announced this morning, our board has increased our stock repurchase authorization by an additional $400 million. We're pleased to receive this most recent increase from our board and it reflects our optimism for the future of the business. We're also generating significant levels of cash flow as the business grows so we're happy to return as much as possible to our shareholders.
Our strong second quarter results can be attributed to a sustained interest in our innovative products, as reflected in the 32% growth in active accounts in the quarter, as well as my enthusiasm for the business opportunity we offer, as reflected by 23% growth in our executive count.

Turning our attention to a few geographic markets. Greater China's growth obviously continues to be very strong. Sales in the second quarter in Mainland China were $198 million. And as we announced a few weeks ago, we're pleased that China recently approved 5 additional direct-selling licenses, which will become increasingly important as our business develops throughout China. We continue to invest to sustain growth in this market and are committed to working to ensure our long-term success there. From what we're seeing, we believe that the market continues to have significant upside potential.
Our north Asia region also had a very strong quarter. South Korea generated an impressive 54% quarterly gain in local currency and continues its long run as a stellar market for us. And Japan had another solid quarter with 5% revenue growth. The weakness of the yen against the dollar is obviously hurting our reported results, but we feel good about the direction of our business in Japan and we believe that North Asia can be $1 billion market for us in the next few years.”

    I’m in!

Mmm. Perhaps not the worst song ever, but a strong contender. Still, the appreciation varies wildly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rico_Suave_%28song%29

But that didn't stop me from buying NUS.

Almost there! Touched new 52 week high this morning (99.60) upon this news:

PROVO, Utah, Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NUS) today announced that it has received FDA clearance to market a facial spa device for over-the-counter cosmetic use. The company's 510(k) application was filed approximately one year ago. The company estimates that the facial spa will become available for sale some time during the first half of 2014.
"We have seen great demand for our innovative spa products throughout the world which has helped us to become a global leader in the home-use skin care device market," said Joseph Chang, Ph.D., chief scientific officer. "We are pleased that our U.S. sales leaders and consumers will be able to enjoy the benefits of this skin care device."
According to a 2012 Kline & Company report, the market for at-home skin care devices has enjoyed double-digit growth globally, with Nu Skin devices leading the way in Asia. The report points to even greater opportunities for growth in the at-home skin care device market in the future.

Also, I am not sure how many utilize covered calls on Mr. Market picks, but the Oct 100 premiums are at $3.30 this morning (with the stock trading at $99.00).
This is obviously bullish and quite a nice premium for 23 day option period.

NUS taking some pain this morning, down >6.00% touching $89.01
However, the Nov options are still very bullish.
As I cannot find any news other than our government partisan games I am doubling down on NUS today and will continue to write covered calls at nice premiums once congress gets back to voting on something.

Yep, but what a nice reversal! Already running back up over $93, up over $4 from the low.
This stock has great support (and again, look at the sweet Option premiums for covered calls).

With the high percentage of margin usage I am gathering there have and will be some serious margin calls this week, which, along with the uncertainty in DC will keep volatility higher than it has been and cause some opportunities to take advantage of that have nothing to do with the company behind the stock.
Always some risk, but very happy I doubled down this morning on NUS.
