I see that since I bought after Jan 23, 2015 this (what ever it is) does not apply to me - still would like to learn from anyone willing to explain. Thanks Sherry

I poked around and couldn't find anything specific to EW. But, hypothetically, as drutzen suggested there might be some kind of spin-off coming up e.g. you get 5 shares of the spin-off for every 100 you own. Or maybe some kind of deal where they want to create a special class of voting shares. Whatever it is, persons with small holdings will get cash not new shares. Therefore if you bought 50 shares at $100 and they make you turn in your shares at $140 you have a capital gain of $2000 on your 50 shares and the government will want the tax money you owe on your gain (if in a taxable account) next April 15. So they have kind of shafted you. Warren Buffett split his B shares for just this reason when he was doing some deal I forget the details of. Since his shares were worth several hundred thousand he had gazillions of small holders.

That's all just a for-instance. I don't know what they are doing. Since splits are so easy in these days of electronics I don't see why they wouldn't do one so I tend to think it is some kind of control issue.

Hope this doesn't just confuse things.

I don't think they can make us sell. Meanwhile EW is trying trying trying to break out of a 3 month pattern. When it happens gains will be swift.

Thanks all for assisting in the question/answer. Billy, from what the adviser at AT informed me of, it is an option to sell and one does not have to.

EW jumps on good news about less invasive valve replacement and Cramer's hearty endorsement this morning. He says "I see it as a very attractive take over candidate".

sixfeet, It looks so good I might not be able to sell. If I hold out for another dollar per share I can buy 4 cheese wheels of baby swiss at the Guggisberg Cheese factory in Charm, Ohio and have $8 left.

sixfeet, I think I'm holding for longer as well. I keep seeing talks of a split or buyout, so maybe I'll see if I can get in on that

Just crested 149. I am up >155 but waiting for the HUGE one's target of 149.62.
Great pick and looks like a good longer term hold as well!

all of them are... but I'm betting that the next one will be an even better one than EW at 148 is. I guess I could have waited for 149 and change... but then again, I'm just trigger (and profit) happy!

Jiesen, Could you loan me some $$ at 14% interest? I'll pay you back in 30 years with Mr.Market profits.

Look at this 10 day chart : http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/qui...w=True&time=18

All the big movement on this chart was today. Hitting 149.71, EW has passed Mr.Market's target but what are the odds this stock won't go even higher over the next few days or even a couple weeks? I'd say it's very rare for a stock to make a move like this in 1 day and then stop. Maybe in the long run EW could drop back but we should have more than 1 really good day.
