Well, I know there was that famous plane crash that took out three musicians in the late 50’s. Can I get two guesses? Was it Ritchie Valens or Buddy Holly?

That's an interesting choice but not correct according to my source. Now that you mention it it's almost surprising that something from these two plus The Big Bopper didn't get released and go to the top.

Just read a little bit more about the guy Wikipedia claims was the first to chart #1 after being killed. He reportedly died in December 1967, his plane crashing in a lake also killing 4 members of his band. One band member survived who reportedly could not swim but clutched a seat cushion til rescued.

I think it was "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. I was 17 at the time and remember it well. Just don't ask me what happened yesterday or last week.

          Yup.

Separately, like Bobbi McGee being written to be sung by a guy and becoming famous sung by a girl, here is Roger Whittaker singing Stranger On the Shore which I never knew had words (think Acker Bilk). It sounds to me that it should be sung by a girl, that it would be the man who goes off to sea but in this version his girl goes to sea.

Here’s your new trivia question. Fabulous prizes await the person with the correct answer.

Which US space probe was the first to orbit another planet (i.e. not the moon) and in which year was this accomplished?

Wild guess. It had to be one of the Pioneers in about 1972 or so, when Star Trek was all the rage. Wait, in one of the episodes didn't the Enterprise almost collide with Pioneer (or almost destroy it) before identifying it as not being an alien enemy? Captain Kirk (William Shatner) became a hero once again, even before Boston Legal.

Nope, not a Pioneer probe. I don’t remember the Enterprise ever almost colliding with a Pioneer probe, but the Klingons did destroy Pioneer 10 as target practice in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. In Star Trek The Motion Picture, a sentient Voyager 6 space probe was the antagonist.

This is probably too easy for this crowd but who is Alice?

Well, maybe the Alice question was a little too female centric so lets turn to sports instead.

A local sports talk show has a feature called Buy or Sell. A moderator reads a one sentence sports related proposition and four commentators Buy or Sell based on whether they think the proposition is true/will come true or false/will be false. Yesterday's proposition was that until 2015 students at perennial March Madness competitor Liberty University were not allowed to watch R rated movies. Three commentators voted yes (which is correct) and one laughed heartily and said no, impossible.

Which made me wonder what he might think of the following question: which large university, a perennial March Madness competitor, forbids all students the drinking of coffee. (PS: I don't drink it.)

My guess is Brigham Young. I worked at a school in Ohio that had 2 or 3 top administrators that were Mormon. They didn't drink coffee , soft drinks, or liquor and didn't smoke.

When did Smokey Bear stop saying "Remember... Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires" and start saying "Only You Can Prevent Wildfires"?
