Top Stocks to Buy and Sell

This will be the thread for posting the top stocks and top stocks to sell; and any discussion involving them. I use the top 7 and worst 7 to buy and sell giving me 14 stocks and 10% in each. The top and bottom stocks update live throughout the market day and I buy and sell based on the new data when a Buy goes too low during the day or a Sell goes too high. That's it. I will start one more thread to compile information on where the market is and where it is probably is going.

    Here are the Top Buys:

UNH - United Health. They sell healthcare plans.

HD - Home Depot. They sell supplies for building.

ORCL - Oracle. Database software for the cloud supposedly.

CSCO - Cisco Sytems. Hardware and networking hardware for communications.

IBM - IBM. Information Technology, hardware, and software.

AMAT - Applied Materials. Inspection and cleaning products for technology.

    Here are the Top Sells:

DIS - Disney. Entertainment for Family.

TMO - Thermo Fisher. Medical Equipment maker.

NKE - Nike. Makes shoes and clothing.

EL - Estee Lauder. Womens' Cosmetics.

MMM - 3M. Diversified industrial, medical, and office products.

NEM - Newmont. Mining for Gold.

ILMN - Research Analysis for genetics and biology.

This list get's updated live throughout the market day, but I don't know how often I can update it here.

There are twelve criteria for the picks, but it's basically split into technical price movement, and earnings. The top buys have strong earnings and sales compared to the rest of the available market, and strong stock prices over the last year. The top sells have weak earnings and sales, and weak stock prices over the last year.

One of the criteria for the lists is the day's percent % change in price. I'll try to update the thread as I buy and sell, but it might be too much work.

Which ones do you like and why? Or which ones do you not like, and why?

I decided to include 3 years of earnings and sales instead of 1 year after I saw Silicon Motion. They gained 50% overnight, which I concluded had to do with their 3-5 year growth. I got less picks, but maybe they will be more consistent.

Here are the Top Buys for Today; HD, IBM, SLB, HAL, GPN, CTSH, WMB, PCAR, IQV, FERG, HPE, ICLR, MOH, AMP, XP, FLT, OC, TRU, RJF, IBKR, CRH, LEA, STLA, J, MMP, WRB, PAG, TS, ARCC, CLH, CHH, NOG, PFGC, AEL, GPI, ITT, ALSN, TNET, L, CNM, NCR, AVT, SSD, ENSG, AIT, CPRX, CD, RDY, MAIN, BCO, IHG, SBS, HURN, NMIH, ICFI, KAI, SAN, AIR, RUSHA, PSMT, GSL, IBOC, OCSL, BBVA, ACT, RPAY, BBW, HWKN, BBDC, SP

Here are the Top Sells for Today; EL, MMM, NEM, ILMN, GOLD, BALL, RVTY, HRL, LEG, CGNX, VIAV, ROG, FFIN, MEI, DCO, SMP, CNDT

I'm updating these everyday. Someone with more capital in their account, like $3 million or higher like $62.9 million might only want to update their holdings once a month. The results are better on shorter timeframes, but if you are moving the market you have to settle for larger moves on longer frames.

I closed all the positions yesterday near the close, and reopened a new batch today. Most of the time I Buy/Sell in the morning and close in the afternoon. Now I am trying to focus on holding longer term.

        Buys - PCAR FLT

Sells - ILMN EL MMM HRL LEG NUS

There were more sells because there are just not enough good ideas at the moment.

I bought CLS in the morning and made 2%, but sold it already because of two things. Stocks are at yesterday's high where we sold off, and if the market goes down, tech stocks like CLS will probably go down, especially with people watching NVDA.

The market's been up for almost a year, and now the lower quality stuff like PTON are dropping because of earnings, and because we have no momentum. The buying today has been mostly in falling stocks, so it's probably short-covering and people daytrading the momentum. My bet is - the high is in and we will go lower or sideways from here. I'm talking day to day. In 6 months or a year I have no clue, maybe lower then higher.

There were a surprising number of Buys that showed up after the market prices continued to rise throughout the day. I didn't update my thread because I wanted to wait for NVDA earnings. From now on, I will just update as it goes live. I've also been kind of cautious because buying and selling has given me gains everyday for the past two weeks. Maybe it's a personality trait failure on my part, but I have a nagging to protect myself from losses and change my strategy after a week and a half.

The portfolio was up 0.06% today, mostly because I closed all my buys around 11:00 am. There weren't many good selections but that changed throughout the day. I should of updated in the afternoon, but I was feeling sad about the morning and I was worried about the earnings of Nvidia. I guess I was a bit slow. Also, I've been careful to hold overnight because I have consistent small gains through the day, and I'm not ready to risk anything.

Buys - VSH STM CLS COKE PCAR PERI PLUS

Sells - ILMN HRL DGX MMM NUS VZ

So since the market was so weak I couldn't find anything strong enough. And since the volume was so low, it was hard to find anything. I sold Pcar as the market fell, and closed EL MMM and LEG. I looked again and bought MOH. As the market got weaker, I sold LEG again.

              Buys FLT MOH

I've been desperately trying to find a way to design a screen for the weekend. The problem is, all the higher quality names are priced too high. P/e ratios for solid 20% growth are in the 35s. The lower P/e's in the high teens are cyclical.

After some research, I've decided two things. First, my Top sells Top buys picks are best for a $100,000 daytrading range. Second, there are no good stocks to invest in. The best I could come up with is Apple if there is another giant government stimulus. Everything else is based on a large wave of pointless government building projects.

There was one stock that got my attention, and I have to say, from everything going on in my life, it is the best pick in the world. The company is Stellantis, STLA. They make cars all over the world. I bought my Jeep from them and spent $74,008.18. All I've been thinking about is spending another one next year, and how I will get enough money to buy it. They have a P/e ratio of 3, their earnings and sales are increasing, and their stock price is going higher. They also have a 7.37% dividend and 22.614 Billion in cash. This is the greatest stock besides Apple, Nvidia, I've ever seen.

There is no weekend / monthly screen. The best I could do, is a daily screen; open to the market. So Screening will be done Friday-Sunday, and trades will be placed Monday. Anyone following should have positive results, but not as good as the version updated. That's my guess, but I could be wrong, and the gains may vary.

My main problem is not having enough Sells, so I can't be sure I'll lose, and I can't diversify. My thinking is: there is not enough money to be made in the market; and there is a higher amount of Buys. This means more stocks are going higher, making more money than stocks going lower. It doesn't look like it, but this is it from the amount of stocks that are outperforming.

The average company fell last month, and the top stocks fell too. As an example, ON fell 7.9% last month. The threshold for a 1 month loss is 8.3%. So even the top performing stocks are going lower, almost as bad as the average stocks. But the worst performing stocks did even more. The data shows the bottom of the best stocks might of fallen around -8%, but the bottom of the worst stocks fell -11% to -16%. So the strategy is working.

Notice my post from 8-18-23. I added the list of Buys and Sells for the first week, and now we can compare them to analyze the data. Just from glance, the Top buys finished flat, half up, and half down. There was a -2%, -1%, -1%, 0%, +1%, +1%, +3%. So it was even slightly positive for the week. The Top sells, in contrast, did much worse. There was a -6%, -5%, -3%, -2%, -1%, +0%, +2%. This means stocks on average went down the last week. There was selling pressure but it found buying in the Top stocks. There was even more buying in the end of the week, as we have 64 Buys and 11 Sells. Most of the original companies didn't make the second week list, as there was short cover buying in the weakest stocks, and the strongest stocks from last week went down; and I increased the earnings and sales threshold, so most of the companies didn't make it.

Here is the Dump for Buys and Sells. What I will probably do is continue daytrading the strategy, but consider weekly performance and in the future monthly performance.

I was going to post the entire 64 Buys and 11 Sells, but i have to do them 1 by 1, so it would take too long. I'll pick the top 7 based on earnings, sales, p/e ratio, and any future I see or don't see in the company.

Buys AZO ABC FI PH PCAR MOH STLA

Sells NEM ILMN NTRS LEG CFFN CNDT RDWR WSBF

I included 8 sells because I've never sold CNDT or RDWR, so I don't know if I'll get shares. The rest should be good. Incase there is not enough volume, I would just sell more of another on the list. The picks should work as a group together, but also as individuals alone; over longer periods of time. I wanted to say something else, but can't remember. I feel sad there are not more sells on the screen. The volume is lower and there is not enough chance to diversify, which would make this strategy perfect. That can change through the week, but it feels risky. Maybe the selling is over, but maybe it'll come back in the middle of the week, or at the end. On a side note, and I am talking to myself here, There is more money in stocks with good earnings, there is less money in stocks with bad earnings, and the companies going higher are larger than the companies going lower. On an economic cycle, and I hate the word economic, but speaking technically we are in a credit tightening cycle, but we haven't seen anything bad happen besides a few banks disappear. I didn't notice anything happen in my life, in fact I was given more money than I ever had, and saw endless potential for spending. So my take away is that the federal government is tightening, but it is being compensated by private easing. I've always had faith in government and authorities to protect what is valuable and make things right, so maybe the Federal Reserve knows what it is doing. There are still excess savings from the covid stimulus. I lost my train of thought, but the economy is still fine, and I'm sure whoever is in charge will ease conditions if there is a Recession. They are probably just tightening when there is inflation, and easing when they see negative outcomes. Maybe they can hit the sweet spot, and the world is slow enough to give time for the changes in credit.

I decided to loosen the criteria for sells and include more names.

Buys AZO ABC FI PH PCAR MOH STLA

Sells NEM ILMN. These two are liquid and are easy to sell. I unfortunately have to include Electric Utility stocks in here with 4% dividends. But their share price should serve as hedge. AEP TRV FE WEC LEG
