Hello Pickers! It was pretty much a meh week for the markets as all three major indices treaded water at their recent lows. Basing at a low is usually an indicator that there will be more downside to come, but the longer the indices base at the low, the better the chance they’ll reverse direction and start moving up;. With all the bad news lately, though, I’m not sure anything is going to follow predictive patterns. All we can do is stay tuned.

There was some movement on the leaderboard as Antioch’s BJ leapfrogged its way back into 1st place. Trailing by the very thinnest of margins in 2nd place is BillyJoe’s BP, which is followed by Minni17’s ATAT in 3rd place. As for the rest of us … ugh. There’s still plenty of time to make a move, though, so let’s kick start the market and make some more green positions.

Ugh. That’s all I have to say: Just one, big, long, messy ugh. The whole market seems to just be dripping, one annoying ploop after another, like a melting candle over the side of a table. If you look at it on a monthly chart, you say, “Oh, that don’t look too bad,” but on a daily chart it looks like Armageddon has started. Need more context, I guess, although it’s been a little rough on our picks as we’re running out of green highway. This week, the standings look like this: Antioch’s BJ is in first, BillyJoe’s BO (I know, I know, it’s supposed to be BP, but I left it in for context) is in 2nd, and Minni17’s ATAT is in third. Good job guys. Keep those green heels dug in.

Excuse me, BW, but BillyJoe doesn't have BO.

Oh boy, I walked right into that one, didn’t I. You’ll have to forgive me, I was still a little loopy from surgery last week. Gotta remember to proof read.

I’ll keep this short as I’m still cleaning the blood off my screen. I’ll start with the only piece of good news I think we’ll be able to point for a while. We actually have one pick still in the green and doing fairly well. Congratulations Antioch on your pick BJ, which now firmly and deservedly holds on to 1st place. Our 2nd and 3rd place picks, Minni17’s ATAT and BillyJoe’s BP, are actually not doing too badly all things considered with losses below 10%. Then the picks descend rapidly on a ski slope of despair into the financial abyss. Man, this has been some nasty business. Hang in there, pickers. Hopefully that light at the end of the tunnel is a pinprick of sunshine coming and not another freight train headed our way. We’ll just have to see.

Talk about whiplash. Ouch. I hope everybody had their seat belt on. Maybe we should start letting people go long on the VIX. In any event the gyrations did have an effect on our picks and the standings changed a bit this week. Unfortunately, our collective circumstances remain dire. Antioch’s BJ is still in 1st and remains our only green pick. Antioch’s Dad’s pick of the SPY has taken over 2nd place with BillyJoe’s BP in 3rd. Looks like Antioch’s family is cleaning up here. Do we need to start antitrust hearings?

So what lies ahead? I sure don’t know, but it’s been a wild ride, and there are opportunities here for both short and long term trading. If you’re looking for buy and hold trades, though, it’d be best wait for a confirmed bottom, and I’m not sure we’ve hit it yet. I’m watching closely because a lot of stocks that I have liked for a while and for which I never thought I’d get an entry are starting to look more attractive valuation-wise. Let’s just see where this crazy monkey of a market heads next.

People aren't fleeing the market yet...seeing mostly market rotation...at least for now

Another down week, but nothing radical, and there were only minor changes on the leaderboard. Antioch’s BJ remains in 1st, but BillyJoe’s BP and Antioch’s Dad’s SPY swapped places with BP in 2nd and the SPY in 3rd. At least the craziness has slowed down. What will the next few weeks hold? Only the Shadow knows.

Hurray! We actually had an up week, and it lifted pretty much all of our picks although some are so underwater they would get the bends if they tried to get to the break even point. As for the standings, things are the same as last week. Antioch’s BJ, our only green pick, remains in 1st. Billy Joe’s BP is holding down 2nd with Antioch’s Dad’s SPY in 3rd. Of the remaining picks, we’ll ** sigh ** we’re going to need a lot of positive earnings or market movement to make them whole. One upbeat note is that Jiesen’s BBAI made a nice +21% move on Friday. It’s in a decent looking bottoming pattern, which could portend more upside. Fingers crossed, Jiesen.

This second, completely unnecessary post is because it didn’t look like my first post went through (I got an error message). I then posted the weekly results again, and, walla, I had two identical posts. I couldn’t figure out how to delete one of the posts, so I edited this one just so it would look like I knew what I was doing. Here’s a limerick to brighten your day.

There once was a picker named Sam.
Whose picks just weren’t worth a damn.
So he asked his friend Rick,
                        To give him a pick,
Which turned out to just be a sham.
