Peanuts,
I'm going in for surgery and might not be back until Feb. Can you place me on medical leave from the contest? Thanks

No thunder stolen at all Dude. LOLOriginally posted by spikefader View PostYep, Webs sure did mention ZICA to me ....... as a daytrade loss from memory...... so I pulled up some charts and saw how good it was long-term. Hope ya'll consider it for your ports; it's screaming long now.
And Webs, I hope my Pick of the Year entry hasn't stolen your thunder.... I've got a bunch of others I can choose from if you want it.
PS. I was waiting for you to come back to chat and "celebrate" about the overnight +25% move from that TA entry point.

Indeed. I don't recall exact figures, but I remember a study that found the majority of a stock's gain/loss was due to sector and overall market direction; i.e a rising tide lifts all boats.Originally posted by skiracer View PostMy point was that being in stocks in the strongest sectors and groups within those sectors puts the edge in your favor. Any edge in your favor makes sense to me and trading stocks within the strong sectors at any given time makes sense to me. The ETF's or HDLR's for those sectors are usually more predictable than the stocks themselves. It's just more ammo in your arsenal. But to each his own.

Peanuts,
MED - long please to start off the New Year. Hopefully millions of people will be making resolutions to lose some weight through dietary programs.
Cancel MED - long please, I've decided to go in another direction. Thanks.

As Peanuts stated, "it would only take a 1.34% gain per week to double your initial $1000". I don't think that is a prohibitive gain per week to accompolish average wise if you only played the strong sector ETF's. They usually don't move as much as the stocks in their basket but they are more predictable than the stocks themselves. I had a great year with them this past year and owned at least several different ones throughout the year as sector rotation cycled. I've held GLD since last May and it's up close to 37% from my entry. I can appreciate not allowing the pink sheet and bulletin board stocks but the ETF's and HLDR's are quite different and much more like the stocks on the DIA and the Nasdaq.
I don't think you would come in first many weeks but overall you would do well and better than the average just picking stocks.
