Well only the 8th best in this case. This coming week I was thinking of seeing how everyone felt about limiting the selections to up to 4 picks due in by Sunday night sometime around midnight. I don't know where Billy Joe got the initial prices for the open on Monday morning and the closing prices each daybut I use Stockcharts.com realtime charting and whatever prices they state for the open on Monday and the close each day should be good enough for everyone I hope. They would be the most convienent an easiest spot for me to work with. Any other suggestions or other sites would be ok with me but please voice your opinions. I was thinking that to give it alittle spice I would insert the option of exiting your initial positions on Wednesday if you wanted to make a change for whatever reasons. Certainly not if they're going good. I'd like to keep it as simple as possible but I'm open to any other suggestions we might want to plug in to give it alittle boost an add something different to the mix. So if anyone has something quirky they might want to add speak up, the sooner the better, just so we get it set as to what we want to do as soon as we can.

Using the open and close at Stockcharts is fine with me...Yahoo has them too.

As far as exiting...I don't know how you were planning this...but if you don't have a plan, here's an idea...At any time from the open Monday till "before" the close on Wednesday a contestant could post here that they want to sell a pick(or cover). You would use the closing price on Wednesday.

No one could rescind their decision; e.g. I post on Monday that I want out...my stock takes off on Tuesday and Wednesday...I cannot change my mind...I get the closing price on Wednesday.

Just a thought...whatever you decide is OK by me...IIC

        • Just a thought, but have you even tried one of those simulation websites. Not sure if this would be a good idea but then you could have the contestants trade in and out of positions and the one with the most cash at the end of the week would be victorious, and be the huge one!!

This site is free and starts with I think 100K

            Runner,
When I was a posting participant over at the IBD forum they had started a stock contest. It evolved into using that site as the base for entering an exiting your trades. The website stated that they were realtime and could keep everything current as far as each individuals portfolio over the month that the contest ran. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. You would enter or exit a trade and wouldn't know for half an hour whether or not you got the trade or were out of the position at the price you wanted. I quit the contest after the first hour when I tried to enter my initial positions and never got any confirmation of entry. I don't think it would be a good idea to use them in any fashion. I kind of like Doug's idea and how he put it. That would be fine with me exactly as he posted. Any refinements on his theme would be welcome an up to the group for final consideration an approval. I would like to add some spice to the game but also would like to keep it as simple as possible if we can. Keep the ideas coming. We have until late tomorrow afternoon or early evening. You won't hear from me tomorrow during the daytime at all as I will be in Gettysbury, PA for college graduation ceromonies for my niece but will be back around 9 pm. Be here all night tonight. Thanks guys for the imput.

I third Doug's idea, with an added twist. How about:
In addition to being able to close at market price Wed, you get to pick limits and/or stops to go with the pick, so if they hit, you're out. Wed night, anyone with cash from a closed position would get to re-evaluate and make another pick or set of picks for that cash to be bought/sold at the open Thursday. This lets the "trade with a plan" crowd do their thing.

I'll start with a pick of DRRA long, no stop, limit sell at 4.14 if my proposed method is ratified by the committee.

I think that is a good idea and would go along with it. The only suggestion I would add if we try that would be to limit the number of initial picks on Sunday to 3 and 3 again on Wednesday if you close out or get stopped out on all your initial picks. 3 picks vs 4 picks doesn't seem like a big difference but keeping track of everything will be a little easier in that sense. No big deal one way or another. My wife is still going to think I spend way to much time with the computer and stocks when I could be sitting on the couch with her watching TV and rubbing her feet.

                        • Thanks all,
I guess it was a good thing I bought those last 6k shares with 10 min to go, just had to preserve the lead as they were bashing it at the end trying to give the lead back to DMK.
Fun times, great pick too DMK.

have to go with NVDA this week, hopefully it gaps down on Mon, because I think it will be down for the day, but comes back through the week, looking for around 29. I still think CKCM can get to 20

Here are the particulars for the game this week.
                            1. Limit of 3 picks. Must be in before 11 pm tonight.

                            2. No limit orders on the initial entry prices which will be the quote from the realtime charts at Stockcharts.com for Monday. You get the entry either long or short from that quote.

                            3. You can set a stop anytime during the day or night thru Wednesday until 3 pm. Once you place the stop it's in concrete and if the stock hits the target stop or goes below it according to Stockcharts realtime charts low for the day you're out of the position at the stop price. If the stop isn't triggered before the close on Wednesday you will have the option to either leave it in place or remove it after the close on Wednesday.

                            4. You can sell a position by putting in a sell order. If you place a sell order during market hours it must be before 3 pm and you get that days closing price. If you put a sell order in after the close Monday or Tuesday you get the opening price the following morning on Stockcharts realtime charts.

                            5. If you sell off any position Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday you can buy a new position or up to 3 new positions after the close on Wednesday but before 11 pm Wednesday night, but you can only buy the same number of new positions that you sold off up to the limit of 3.

                            6. The 2nd half of the week will work just like the 1st half. You can sell off positions to limit your losses up to 3 pm Friday.

This should offer some diversity an yet keep it somewhat simple. Any questions please ask. Bon Appetite and good luck to everyone.

ok, just to clarify, my pick is:

DRRA long - no stop (and no limit order to sell, since it's not allowed)
