New POTW rules for 2006?....
The current rules don't allow for an opening "cash" play, they do allow you to make a pick any time Monday (before the market closes) then move to cash.Originally posted by grebnetThis will be a goofy week with too many people sitting home trying to make money. Makes for a trading week ,not a buy and hold..So Ill start in Cash $$$$
Happy Holidays everyone.
Hmmmm.... The rules should allow an opening cash position as long as you post it. Greb, since you put up the effort to post your play (cash) I'll allow it with no penality in the points.
This is the last week of the year and a new contest and points race starts next week. If you (anyone) have additional suggestions that might make the contest better (without making it highly complicated for the scorekeeper) please post your thoughts.
Here's an cool idea for next year (thanks to Greb)....
You can start the week "in cash" by posting the "cash" position by the end of the trading day Monday.... To play it safe, just post your "cash position" play during the weekend and you are entered in the POTW.
If desired, you may stay in cash all week and avoid a penality in the points.
Of course, any time during the week you may play (max) two stocks (one at a time like the old rules) and move back into cash between picks.
If you opt to stay in cash for the week your score would be 0.0% (not -5.0% which is the penality for nonparticipation)BEEF!... it's whats for dinner!

I like that new rule Lye. It's realistic that one can't find something to play, and will only help the bottom line I think.
An additional rule of limit order would be nice. For those stocks with wide spread and you want a smart entry for it.... but it does make it a bit more work having to set an alarm.
If you like, I can track all limit orders and either call the real-time fill, or if I'm away from the keyboard, research time and sales when I'm back to ensure the fill took place.

Karel Maybe we need a monthly contest like the Aussies have, they call it a monthly "stock tipping" contest. They have around 30 players and keeping score is very easy. Each player enters one pick before the begining of the new month and the portfolio closes at the end of the month then starts over with a new contest the following month. Why don't you start a new thread.... the POTM contest. It would be interesting to see who picks good longer term stocks. The Aussies had about five players over 20% in Nov....Originally posted by KarelBoring, boring: CMCO opened 4.5% over previous weeks close! Oh well, it looks nice in my real portfolio.
