Why didnt you hold on to both of them. I would like to hear your reasoning on the early exit. ya know you got to let these run out and maximize the move.

I made two trades, quick 1-2 day in-and-out's on HOV. I didn't see your mention of it until just under $2.00, so I was late. I got into GCA at 4.60, and sold at 5.07 two weeks ago.Originally posted by skiracer View PostHOV: entry 1.10: closed today at 2.64: + 1.54 / + 140%: 3000 shares @ 1.10 = 3300: 3000 shares @ 2.64 = 7920 = + 4620 in 5/6 wks.
GCA: entry 4.25: closed today 5.52: + 1.27 / + 30%
did anyone even take a sniff? HOV could go to $10 in an election year!

its taking a big dump today. When I first noticed the charts and the cup base forming it was around $6.40. Bigtime drop from that high. I like the stock but am going to remain patient and see which way the wind blows this coming week. its got me for .40 on the last trade so getting back in at this range will feel better and kind of even me up.Originally posted by bootsmagee View PostGood pullback so far today. Good pullback so far today. Monday might just be a good time to look for entry, like you said.Originally posted by skiracer View PostI just read in the paper this morning that NJ has passed the law giving the ok for stun gun use and will be training all law enforcement officers in the use of these stun guns. I really think the stock is going to go up bigtime over the next year or two. its really cheap right now and a great time to start acquiring it.

I hope you are right. I am still holding on from before. Good news on the new orders for the first quarter. I might pickup some more shares if I see some action begin.Originally posted by skiracer View PostI'm beginning to like TASR again. OK I like simple;
Every one starts with a margin account of $10,000.
2 to 1 margin would give you $30,000 buying power.
Only trade stocks over $10.00; No penny stocks.
Swing trades; hold for over a day unless stop or target is hit.
Buys and sell made as close to possible in real time. I figure if you have time to make a trade you have time to post what you did. If you are letting the market take you in and out of a trade you can post prior to filling your position.
Trade record should include price, position size, stops and targets. Stops and targets can be changed after you are in a trade.
Commissions will be one cent per share or $1.00 minimum.
The number of positions will be up to the individual and determined only by the buying power in the account. If you exceed your allowable margin there will be a margin call, just like in real life where some or all of your positions will be sold at market.
Each participant will be responsible to post their own performance
Feel free to add anything I have missed.

great idea Deaddog. I like this even better than the contest I suggested. there has to be some parameters but if we can keep it simple then its ok with me. of course keeping the records of full time trading with all the specifics would pose a problem.Originally posted by Deaddog View PostStock picking is what Mr Market does. At best for a one week time frame it’s a wild guess. Why not have a trading contest?
Have each participant trade a specific dollar account and see who has the most money after a defined period. (six months or a year)
Calls would be made in real time. Or as close to real time as possible.
The guy with the most money wins.
I still like the idea of a contest like I mentioned. I dont think "wild guess" is the most appropiate way to put it. I think most of us here have a plan and a decent way of picking their stock plays. Im just looking for the simplest way to have some fun. if we all put in $1 a week every month there would be a nice little extra for someone. I know that if I pick a stock every week its going to be a well thought out researched and timely stock pick for that weeks market. I think we can count on the rest of everyone to do the same. who would want to come in last over any period of time.Last edited by skiracer; 01-15-2012, 06:29 PM.

the single most important rule of the rich, getting rich, and why they get richer: buy low sell high.Originally posted by mrmarket View PostA lot of the big homebuilder stocks (KBH, TOL) have already done VERY well in the last several months. One thing is for sure, there is A LOT of room to run with these guys.Originally posted by skiracer View PostI know the family and the company. They are Armenians and are sharp merchandise and camel traders for centuries. They are very very frugal and although the companies stock is way down from its highs the company is quite solvent and they are sitting on a pile of cash. There is no real debt or I should say pressing debt to account for. What they are doing in NJ and across the country has been acquiring land at depressed prices. vast acquisitions, very cheap, that will put them in a great position to build their retirement communities and other housing developments when the worm turns and the worm is going to have to turn for housing if the economy is going to recover and Obama wants any chance of getting re-elected. I dont want the bastard to get re-elected but it looks like housing is going to recover to some larger degree in this re-election process. We might as well profit from the opportunity whether we like him or not. The stock has never sold this low since the inception of the company. Everyone I know in this area has been buying the stock. They are a local outfit and started right here in the Toms River, Ocean County area of NJ. Very big presence here and in Monmouth Co. which is just north of Ocean Cty. I dont have any inside info other than what I have just mentioned but I know they are taking advantage of this opportunity to acquire land cheap and land is what drives their company. How about if I said I think the stock goes above $10 this year from $1.00 range. Im in at $1.10 level and own several thousand shares which has doubled from my entry. you could do alot worse than buying a thousand or so shares and just sitting on them for a while. I wish yourself and others here would have taken advantage of the buying opportunity when I first mentioned it here a few months back. Still not to late but the boat has left the dock.
as far as their peers go, I would assume all other the major builders are doing the same thing where they can. I like a few of them that have been hit hard by the housing slump but HOV is a major that has been hit hard and the price right here is really cheap.
