Simply pick one you think might go up that week (or short one you think might go down).... That's all any of the 27 current players did.

Dude.... Think of it..... kinda like.... betting on the NCAA bowl games. Just give it your best shot. I know you are a gambling man..... Now, If you see it as a waste of time because you absolutely must have some type "asset" on the line to make it interesting?.... I'm sure that can be arranged via PM....

No..it has nothing to do with that. It's just that I don't pick stocks willy nilly. I just don't know how to do that. I'm pretty thorough in my analysis and I don't have time to do it weekly. Does anyone else understand this?

      I ain't buyin' it dude....

So enter a stock you've researched.... You ain't listening dude.... Again I refer you to Karel. You could learn from him. He is the "points LEADER". He does NOT enter a different stock each week (he played CMCO for eight weeks straight), he never short sells.... YET HE IS THE BEST PLAYER RIGHT NOW!!!! Do you know what that means? this contest is NOT just a weekly contest but an ongoing (average) performance contest.

Did I mention that it's FUN!!!!????

I really think you might be afraid to compete with 27 of your loyal members. Seem that way to me. Call me crazy, but I just like competition dude.... I thought you did too. This is (to me) like being invited over to your house to play basketball yet YOU refuse to play.

Tell ya what Ernie.... I've got a challenge for ya.... You've got HUUUGE 19" biceps right?.... or is it 21"?.... I forget.... Will you armwrestle me at the freakin convention?

I totally understand this. I approach stock picking with a similar mentality, one reason I've used the long-term strategy of picking AMLN each week- it's one pick I've settled on long for now. But seeing it get ahead of itself, and with scrips not so spectacular this week, I thought I would try to willy-nilly pick some stocks this week... obviously day-trading is not my thing, from looking at the resulting disaster. I'll be sticking to AMLN for the next few weeks at least (though I'm still rooting for PRX to clear the sinuses for two more days).

I know you TA guys have this trading thing down to a science, and it's one I'd love to master at some point, but I know from experience that the results of trying to use real money predicting short-term moves in stocks can be detremental to a portfolio. My first couple years trading cost me over 70% of my trading port (luckily, I started small). Every year since has seen a reduction in the number of trades and a corresponding increase in investment return.

That said, I still find it fun to throw a pick out every week. But I can understand why $$MM wouldn't want to do it. He's trying to reserve his stock picking for his best efforts. And why wouldn't he? It's his site after all. I don't care much if I lose face from some poor picks on this board. Heck, my face isn't even on the site! But $$MM's is, and he takes pride in his stock picking, and he should... 'cause he's HUGE!!!

But this is not fair! I haven't half the financial acumen Ernie has and I put only a fraction of the time he uses in a stock pick. And I don't think it would make any difference if I used more time. One might argue that it probably wouldn't make much of a difference if Ernie put a lot less time in his stock picks, but it is hard to fault his wish to become thoroughly acquainted with a company.

On another tack: $$$Mr.Market$$$ entries probably are not ideal, but taken anyway because you might never get the chance for a better entry. This is where the TA people start flexing their muscles. And it takes time to stalk a stock, which some people, me included, just don't want to do. Further, the $$$Mr.Market$$$ model asks for a basket of stocks; playing it with just one or even a handful is not advisable. (BTW, Ernie advises nobody to follow his system!)

So yes, it would be fun if he would play, but I think I understand his reasons for not playing.

And my high ranking in the overall results is just a fluke, and I mean that. Over time I expect to remain in the black, but a lot lower than I am now. And I am not playing the POTW with $$$Mr.Market$$$ like picks!

Yes, it seems to me Sean moved the target in anticipation of a deluge of supporters. Not sure how I feel about that. But, I don't know Sean. And my kids aren't in JA. I support them both based on Ernie's recommendation

Hey Geri.... I'd like to invite you to enter a pick in the POTW (BillyJoe's POTW thread). I think you might find it fun and educational.

It's easy.... visit the thread and find a post by "Rob".... Then locate the "POTW rules" link at the bottom of his posts..... Robs a genius, heck he'll even help get you an Avatar. Hope the see you there.

Thanks, Lye! I've been stalking it (spike's term). I've been tempted to give my "intuitive" picks, but will not go there on this website. It's very left brain.
I'm doing research and will meet you at POTW soon when I'm better armed.
Hey, maybe Ernie will slip me a few great picks on the sly, undercover. lol

                              Good morning Ernie!

I just wanted you to know what a tremendous success our Bowl-a-thon turned out to be last week, and thanks to you, your website and your Hugerones, as well as the many other generous and thoughtful people affilitated with our BP organization, we generated $82,000 for the Junior Achievement program of Chicago. On behalf of the thousands of children that it benefits each and every year, I applaud and thank you!

                              Have a great day!
