    WMT = Bargain

What does this chart say to you?

Looks like some downward manipulation about to stop working. WMT is approaching a very tempting price. Possible target: 42?

    What do you think?

Just came from Walmart. Was shopping for V-8 juice. The local grocery store carries it for the everyday price of $2.69. WMT has it everyday for $2.92. Deodorant? WMT everyday at $2.87, Walgreen's $2.79.

I am saying that WMT is facing some pricing issues due to the high price of gasoline. I read an article two days ago that said WMT cannot raise prices, even though they NEED to, in order to pay for the increased heating/cooling costs.

In short, the FA on WMT: I think I would leave it alone. Next post: I'll give you the chart.

      Wmt

WMT chart says it is possible that $42.50 could be the bottom. But that is by
not means sure. It could continue to bottom.

I hate Walmart. They've destroyed a lot of the old small town businesses all over the country.

Now they're trying to go after the Carrefour stores in France. I'm not French, but I hate the idea the idea of Walmart trying to invade the French culture.

Maybe I'll short Walmart stock one day.

Yeah, I think that is probably the best argument for buying WMT I've seen yet.

Thanks for all the opinions on this one, guys. I'll probably keep waiting on this one, and try to look deeper into their fundamentals (don't know whether I can really make sense of something so huge though) before picking an entry on this one. It'd probably be in the 36-41 range though, if I had to make the call right now.

Walmart has not destroyed small town businesses anywhere. They did not hold a gun to anyone to make them shop their stores. People, using their freedom here in America, elected to shop at Walmart for their lower prices and greater selection. The people who shop Walmart figured that Walmart served them better than their small town business competitors, so they spent their money at Walmart rather than paying higher prices in those small town businesses. In other words, Walmart has served their customers better than others. Their business model is more efficient than other's. That's why they are the biggest. The question will be whether or not they can continue to do so. That remains to be seen. Where freedom rings, others have the opportunity to attempt to prove that they can out serve the next guy, as they serve the buying public. In past days, Sears used to rule. Or JC Penny. Or Montgomery Wards. But their business model ultimately failed them when Sam Walton came up with a more efficient (re: earnings, earnings, earnings) business model. Someday--no doubt--someone will figure out how to outdo the Walton business model. And when they do, it will be progress. Yes, it is progress that put the small town business out-of-business. But then, progress also put the small farmer out of business, and moved him into town to build computers, cars, and other useful things. Progress is wonderful.

Walmart has done a great service to every American: they have done more than anyone in the world to hold inflation in check in the USA. Everyone in the USA has a higher standard of living due to Walmart. Lower prices means everyone has more money to spend on other things, and that means a higher standard of living.

I don't hate Walmart. I love Walmart. And you should, too.

PS Now is probably as good a time as any to short Walmart stock. It is headed lower--no doubt about it. $39 is a good target. Unless, of course, you can drop the price of gas by $2 per gallon.

                      Retailers

Folks, you better just figure on a bad retailers' Christmas season. Christmas season accounts for 25% of all retailers' business. With $3 gasoline, and with a new bankruptcy law that requires credit card companies to change the minimum payment, this Christmas is going to be a slow one. The law used to require credit card companies to make the minimum payment sufficient to pay off the card in 20 YEARS! But starting in November, it will have to be sufficient to pay the card off in TEN YEARS. So for people who are maxed out with their cards, their minimum payments just doubled, starting with Nov's payment. Say you had a monthly credit card payment of $400--it will be $800 starting in Nov. Add in the $3 gasoline, and you can spell R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N right quick.

Yes, now is a good time to short Walmart.

I'm sorry Newborn, but I must disagree with you about Walmart. Walmart has an unfair advantage over the smaller businesses and will anything it takes to drive them out of business. It's unfortunate, but our government seems to favor big business.

Don't worry though, Newborn, we might disagree about Walmart, but I still like you.
