Ski, the photo’s where taken in the early 90's. I was stationed at Ft Bragg, NC. I was assigned to 3/325th ABN/Recon. I’m also familiar with Fast roping. We use to slid down the ropes on top of building. Nice adrenaline rush!!
The photos are taken during what is called a Hollywood jump. We use to love these kind of jumps because we had no combat gear strapped to us. This jump I think was about 3,000 feet above ground level (AGL). Notice the chute. With these chutes we had little toggles that we would pull to allow us to control our direction. I use to love to pull into the wind to try to max the hang time. Every now and then you would get caught in a current that would keep you up in the air for a while. That was cool.
Most jumps are not Hollywood, but what we call Mass Tac, this is when can file out both doors from a C-130 with combat gear on. Normally these jumps where in the middle of the night. Hang time would not be very long. Mass tac’s where sometimes crazy. We would sometimes have about 5,000 paratroopers all hitting the drop zone at one time.
