Still nobody ever went broke taking 100%. Correct!

I think John Henry calculates it much differently!

John Henry, How did you find that? 10 years ago and I can't remember the discussion ever taking place. It all makes me even more confused although I'd be happy to gain only 100%.

              I still wouldn't touch SHLD with a 10 foot pole : http://blogs.barrons.com/stockstowat...rrons&ru=yahoo

Figured you had seen this, so didn't post it sooner.
Sears will close 30 Sears and Kmart stores in early 2017. Here's the full list of stores that will shut down.

River, I can't read the article unless I get rid of ad blocker or pay $1 for 30 days access then only $9.95/ month thereafter, LOL !

Me, too. I'm not willing to go that far to read any news, however exciting. If there's another link that's easier to access, I'd be interested in seeing it, though.

The struggling retailer is set to shutter another 30 locations even as it secures a new line of credit

Here's another link. If you still have trouble, google "sears kmart stores closing". There are some more links there.

and down 20% now... if only that'd happened to MY pick!
at least it's still up from your entry price. mine is, too, but in my case that's a bad thing.

                            Winner

                            Happy New Year!

What an impressive year for Pick of The Year (POTY) 2016, seven players with double digit gains.

Only three players with triple digit gains. They are:

Please take your hats off and congratulate the POTY 2016 winner.

Mimo_100 with a huge and impressive gain of 415.45 percent. The biggest gain in the history of POTY.

Please congratulate the second place. MrMarket also with a huge and impressive gain of 191.35 percent.

Please congratulate the third place. Vixtt another a huge and impressive gain of 122.47 percent.

I thought Peanuts had a good pick and a nice gain even with a 20 percent penalty for a few months until the five for one split killed the stock.

... there is another group of people who advocate that just the first five trading days of January are predictive of the rest of the year. We took data from 1950 through 2013 for the S&P 500 Index and then calculated both positive and negative results on a weekly and monthly basis.

For the 64 years from 1950 through 2013, a positive return in January was predictive of a positive return for the year 92.5% of the time. A positive return during the first five trading days of January was predictive of a positive return for the year 90.0% of the time.

A negative return in January was predictive of a negative return for the year 54.2% of the time — basically not predictive at all. A negative return during the first five trading days of January was predictive only 50% of the time, amounting to nothing more than a flip of a coin.

A HUGE congratulations to Tim for his top pick (AMD) and its impressive 415% gain; as well as all who played and make this community what it is.

Plus another HUGE thanks to JohnHenry for his great work keeping the POTY going!
