The $$$MR. MARKET$$$ College Bowl Picks

I finally won a bet on a bowl game last night so I am ready to display my picks for this year:

CF 87 12/24 NEVADA VS CENTRAL FLORIDA (HAWAII BOWL) (8:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    NEVADA -3.0 -110 OVER 64.0 -110 -150
    CENTRAL FLORIDA +3.0 -110 UNDER 64.0 -110 +130

Hmmm ..this is a tough one. No defense here..give me 1 unit on the OVER.

CF 95 12/26 (F) AKRON VS MEMPHIS (MOTOR CITY BOWL) (4:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    AKRON +4.5 -110 OVER 50.0 -110 +170
    MEMPHIS -4.5 -110 UNDER 50.0 -110 -200

I have to lay the points and take Memphis here for 2 units. They beat UTEP and Southern Miss. Akron lost to Army and didn't cover the spread against Buffalo when I was in Vegas.

CF101 12/27 (F) COLORADO VS CLEMSON (CHAMPS SPORTS BOWL) (5:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total
    COLORADO +10.0 -110 OVER 45.0 -110
    CLEMSON -10.0 -110 UNDER 45.0 -110

Colorado is awful awful awful. You have to believe that the last month of practice has been a total waste of time for them. Clemson has been battle tough all year. Lay the points for 3 units.

CF103 12/27 (F) RUTGERS AT ARIZONA ST (INSIGHT BOWL) (8:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    RUTGERS +10.5 -110 OVER 62.5 -110 +325
    ARIZONA ST -10.5 -110 UNDER 62.5 -110 -450

You have to love Rutgers but they are simply not ready for prime time. The only team they have beaten of any quality is Navy. Their blowout loss to Louisville signifies how far they still have to go. Arizona St has a big offense that Rutgers will not be able to stop. Lay the points for 2 units.

CF105 12/28 (F) BOSTON COLLEGE AT BOISE ST (MPC COMPUTERS BOWL) (4:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total
    BOSTON COLLEGE -1.5 -110 OVER 54.5 -110
    BOISE ST +1.5 -110 UNDER 54.5 -110

yes they are playing on the blue field, but BC is not going all the way out there to lose. Boise is just not that good this year and BC has played, and beaten, much tougher teams this year (NC St, Virginia, Clemson, BYU). Take BC for 3 units.

CF107 12/28 (F) NEBRASKA VS MICHIGAN (ALAMO BOWL) (8:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    NEBRASKA +11.0 -110 OVER 46.5 -110 +400
    MICHIGAN -11.0 -110 UNDER 46.5 -110 -550

No..Nebraska is not back. The only bowl team they beat this year was Colorado. Lay the points and go with Michigan who beat some great teams this year (Penn St, Iowa, Northwestern). 1 unit on the Maize and Blue

CF109 12/29 (F) UTAH VS GEORGIA TECH (EMERALD BOWL) (4:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    UTAH +8.5 -110 OVER 46.0 -110 +250
    GEORGIA TECH -8.5 -110 UNDER 46.0 -110 -330

This is a lot of points, but I have no idea how Utah even got into a bowl game. If Georgia Tech is paying attention (they beat Auburn, Clemson and Miami this year), this will be a laugher. Not sure they will show up but I'll lay the points for 1 unit on the Yellow Jackets.

CF111 12/29 (F) OKLAHOMA VS OREGON (HOLIDAY BOWL) (8:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    OKLAHOMA +3.0 -110 OVER 55.5 -110 +135
    OREGON -3.0 -110 UNDER 55.5 -110 -155

Oregon needs to make a statement and Oklahoma just wants to end this season. Oklahoma never got its offense going and Oregon is a big play team. 2 units on the Ducks.

CF113 12/30 (F) VIRGINIA VS MINNESOTA (MUSIC CITY BOWL) (2:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    VIRGINIA +4.0 -110 OVER 58.5 -110 +150
    MINNESOTA -4.0 -110 UNDER 58.5 -110 -170

I think there will be a lot of running in this game which will shorten it up quite a bit. Take the UNDER for 1 unit.

CF115 12/30 (F) NORTHWESTERN VS UCLA (SUN BOWL) (2:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    NORTHWESTERN +3.0 -110 OVER 74.5 -110 +135
    UCLA -3.0 -110 UNDER 74.5 -110 -155

UCLA is awful. After getting destroyed by Arizona and USC, these guys just want to go to the beach. Northwestern's offense is relentless. 5 units on Northwestern taking the points.

CF117 12/30 (F) MISSOURI VS SOUTH CAROLINA (INDEPENDENCE BOWL) (3:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    MISSOURI +4.0 -110 OVER 51.0 -110 +160
    SOUTH CAROLINA -4.0 -110 UNDER 51.0 -110 -180

I think this will be a pretty close game but I have to go with Spurrier here. Lay the points for 1 unit on South Carolina.

CF119 12/30 (F) LSU VS MIAMI FLORIDA (PEACH BOWL) (7:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total
    LSU +7.0 -110 OVER 41.0 -110
    MIAMI FLORIDA -7.0 -110 UNDER 41.0 -110

This is a Marquee game in a underrated bowl. I like LSU's defense here and I think the points will come into play in this low scoring game. 1 unit on LSU, taking the points.

CF125 12/31 (F) SOUTH FLORIDA VS NC STATE (MEINEKE CAR CARE BOWL) (11:00 am ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    SOUTH FLORIDA +4.0 -110 OVER 41.5 -110 +170
    NC STATE -4.0 -110 UNDER 41.5 -110 -200

Just a hunch that South Florida will keep it close given that this is the biggest game ever in the school's history. Bet 1 unit on the Bulls, taking the points.

CF127 12/31 (F) TULSA VS FRESNO ST (LIBERTY BOWL) (1:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    TULSA +7.0 -110 OVER 61.5 -110 +200
    FRESNO ST -7.0 -110 UNDER 61.5 -110 -250

Fresno needs to come up big in this game to redeem themselves and re-establish their credibility...2 units on Fresno.

CF129 12/31 (F) IOWA ST VS TCU (HOUSTON BOWL) (2:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    IOWA ST +3.5 -110 OVER 49.0 -110 +150
    TCU -3.5 -110 UNDER 49.0 -110 -170

Were it not for the stupid loss to SMU, TCU would be undefeated. However, Iowa St is a tough team and if you look at the 2nd half of their season, they have been pretty impressive. I'll go with Iowa St, taking the points for 1 unit.

CF159 1/2 (F) ALABAMA AT TEXAS TECH (COTTON BOWL) (11:00 am ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    ALABAMA +3.0 -110 OVER 47.0 -110 +130
    TEXAS TECH -3.0 -110 UNDER 47.0 -110 -150

Texas Tech never seems to be able to put up the points against a tough defense. Bama should be able to run the ball. I like the UNDER here for 1 unit.

CF161 1/2 (F) IOWA AT FLORIDA (OUTBACK BOWL) (11:00 am ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    IOWA +2.0 -110 OVER 48.0 -110 +110
    FLORIDA -2.0 -110 UNDER 48.0 -110 -130

Florida is just too inconsistent for me and Iowa gets geared up for these games. Take the Hawkeyes and the points for 2 units.

CF163 1/2 (F) LOUISVILLE VS VIRGINIA TECH (GATOR BOWL) (12:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    LOUISVILLE +7.5 -110 OVER 55.5 -110 +250
    VIRGINIA TECH -7.5 -110 UNDER 55.5 -110 -330

Louisville is fraudulent. Put them against a tough team and they fold. Take VA Tech, lay the points for 3 units.

CF165 1/2 (F) WISCONSIN VS AUBURN (CAPITAL ONE BOWL) (1:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    WISCONSIN +10.5 -110 OVER 52.5 -110 +350
    AUBURN -10.5 -110 UNDER 52.5 -110 -500

Were it not for the opening game loss to Georgia Tech and an OT loss to LSU, Auburn would be playing USC right now. Wisconsin defense is not tough enough to stifle a good ground attack, which Auburn has. I like Auburn for 4 units.

CF167 1/2 (F) NOTRE DAME VS OHIO ST (FIESTA BOWL) (4:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    NOTRE DAME +4.0 -110 OVER 55.5 -110 +150
    OHIO ST -4.0 -110 UNDER 55.5 -110 -170

ok..besides Michigan, who has Notre Dame beaten? I love the Buckeyes for 3 units.

CF169 1/2 (F) WEST VIRGINIA AT GEORGIA (SUGAR BOWL) (8:30 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    WEST VIRGINIA +7.0 -110 OVER 45.0 -110 +250
    GEORGIA -7.0 -110 UNDER 45.0 -110 -330

I don't think West Virginia is quite good enough for this spotlight. Big East shouldn't be in any BCS games. Lay the points for Georgia and 2 units.

CF171 1/3 (F) FLORIDA ST VS PENN STATE (ORANGE BOWL) (8:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    FLORIDA ST +8.5 -110 OVER 47.5 -110 +300
    PENN STATE -8.5 -110 UNDER 47.5 -110 -400

I'll be surprised if FSU scores 10 points in this game. Penn St has been great all year. Lay the points for 4 units on the Nittany Lions.

CF173 1/4 (F) TEXAS VS USC (ROSE BOWL) (8:00 pm ET)
    Outcome Spread Total Money Line
    TEXAS +7.5 -110 OVER 71.0 -110 +210
    USC -7.5 -110 UNDER 71.0 -110 -270

I love USC here. They are the greatest team we've seen in a while. Sure Texas is good, but USC is better coaches and simply has way too many weapons on offense. The high scoring game makes the point spread meaningless. Lay the points for 6 units on USC.

    Ok..let's see how I do!

    Mr. Market,
Being a buckeye I agree with you on Ohio State. They came closest to beating Texas and Notre Dame came closest to beating USC , however in a rematch USC would probably wipe out ND, but having watched all of Ohio State's games I think they could beat any team except for USC.

Great thread. I love this stuff. I do differ from you in a few games. Here's my picks:

Miami/LSU: I love Miami in any postseason games. Always come up big expecially after a somewhat disappointing season. Lay the -7 with Miami.

Louisville/VT: Louisville highly overrated. Virginia Tech is for real and will be up big for this game. Lay the -7.5 with VT.

ND/Ohio St: I'm a big fan of ND so I'm prejudiced to start but ND played a tough schedule and beat Mich., Tenn. and should have beaten USC. Still haven't gotten over that one but Weis will have a great game plan for this one and will have them up. Brady Quinn is for real. I've taken 5 1/2 points and laid 3 1/2 points in several places since the line came out an although I want to see ND win big time I would take it falling at 4. Plus us Catholics have Touchdown Jesus on our side. Take the +4 with ND.

Penn St./Fla: If Penn. St. doesn't win this game someone threw it. Lay the -8.5 with Penn. St.

Texas/USC: My bet of the season. Texas is for real and so is Young. They are going to be up really big time for this game and will reveal just how weak USC really is when going up against a really good team like Texas. I feel that USC could have easily lost two games this year. Take the +7.5 with Texas and feel that Texas will win outright.

When you say one unit you do mean a $5 unit. We could make it interesting and for real but we would never gamble right?

unit is a relative term....the denomination of each unit depends on the "investor".

48 points at halftime on the UCF / Nevada game....my OVER is looking pretty handsome right now.

Mr. Market I am going to have to disagree with you here on the USC v Texas. I'd take the points I think USC wins but they win by 7. So there you go you have the half point to win the money. My bro put some money down on this in Vegas so I'm hoping he is right.

With my win on the OVER, I am now up 1 unit for the season. Beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Are you laying 110 or 120 to 100 on your straight positions? Very hard to do it regularly every week without getting chewed up by the vig if you're going into a number of positions. I have a couple of bottles of decent California Cabernet's that I would put up on ND +4 and Texas +7.5 against whatever you though was equal. Like a bottle of Grand Marinier. Just to make it interesting.

Generally I lay 110 to win 100. I have a computer program that looks for inefficiencies in the "market prices" (i.e. point spreads). Obviously the fun of the bowl games is to bet every game.... so I'm wagering on a few games that look to be fairly priced (my lower "unit" wagers).

I have a pretty strong feeling on the other side of the bets you mentioned. I'll just say "Good Luck" and leave it at that. I'll have fun taking "the man's" money...I don't need your wine!

I am happy to see the huge one pick the Hawkeyes. They have a great coach and seem to finish out each season strong. Hopefully they will kick the Gators around. I see alot of big ten love in those picks. I agree but we will have to see how they finish.

Of course Clemson scored the late TD that would have pushed, but they get their PAT blocked....oh well..lost 3 units on that game. Back to zero for the season.

                              Here's a story for you.
My uncle was one of the biggest and sharpest sports line makers and books on the east coast and moved action on everything from horses to any sporting event across the country from some of the biggest sports betters and books in the country. From the time I was around 12 until I was 19 and went into the army I would sit in the office with him every night after school and take the action on the games over the phones and help him keep his records. In all those years I never seen him make a bet on anything while he was alive but he was the best at moving his line with his customers to get the best edge for himself. For as long as he was alive he would never let me make a bet an always pounded it into me that the only way to make money in gambling was to be on the side taking the action, earning the vig, and not betting. For all the years I spent by his side it still took me 30 years to learn and fully understand that concept. Whenever a game ended this way I can remember him always saying to me, Eddie, you let them (atheletes) play with someone else's money. He always thought they were all betting.
