I have 22 consecutive profitable trades of 15% or better. How is this possible? Every day there are hundreds of stocks setting new highs, no matter what happens in the overall market. Many of these stocks are still at very reasonable valuations. Afraid of buying stocks at their highs? Think of it this way: a new high is really a future floor for companies with solid financial underpinnings. Quantitative momentum modeling makes it easy to identify stocks that can continue this upward momentum trend. Why does this happen? It's really very simple..ask me about what investors and cows have in common. I am $$$ MR. MARKET $$$. I AM HUGE!!! Bring me your finest meats and cheeses. You can join in on the fun. Pick of the Year Contest Week ending 9/8/06 Celebrity Division
This proved to be a disastrous week for our celebs as only 2 advanced 15 declined. 2 went red : STX and XTO while 1 went green , ERTS. Overall YTD performance plunged from +5.63% to +.79%. CSSGX dropped to 9.20 , it's lowest point since inception. Only gainer of consequence was ERTS #6 +2.42%. Major losers include #3 FTO -22.4% , #7 STX -12.66% , #4 SU -10.76% , #14 ESLR -9.01% , #1 FMCN -8.18% , and #9 XTO -6.24%.
A really lousy week for the group...although Park's DDD was +11.52% for the week.
Our A/D/U for the week was 4/20/2 lowering us to 12/14/0 from 12/13/1 YTD last week as I went from Unchg'd to green w/ IDWK, Sis went green w/ DVN but Karel's CELL and Gary's VLO went red.
Not much has changed...we are collectively -3.46% YTD...The CSSGX still sux though and is now down over 12% YTD...So much for CANSLIM.
I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.
Pick of the Year Contest, Celebrity Division , Week Ending 9/15/06
The celebs made a comeback this week with 12 advancing and 5 declining. STX again went green and MSFT broke into profitable areas for the first time in a long time. Top losers were #3 FTO -14.14% , #5 SU -6.50%, and #11 XTO -6.31%. Advancers were led by #1 ATI +10.82%, #4 STX +10.16%. #10 GOOG +7.58%, #16 IPAS +6.22%, and #7 MSFT +4.77% . YTD the celebrity portfolio is +2.53%.
Another cr*ppy week for the group...although Mimo's ENER was up 16.4% on the -$.02 EPS report and Sled's FORD was +10.2%. However, if oil stays down I'd predict that alternative energy stocks hit the skids...Think the Arabs know this?...Of course they do...Keep oil at a level that makes alternatives financially prohibitive.
Our A/D/U for the week was 15/11/0 vs. 4/20/2 last week BUT with the bottom falling out of gold (dn over 8% the past 30 days) our YTD dropped to a measly 10/16/0 as Peter and DMK go red w/ GG.
Worst of all, our collective performance was down 0.89% for the week dropping us to -4.50% YTD while the lowly CSSGX was +0.43% for the week. However, CSSGX is down 11.66% YTD.
I use the open on 1/3/06 for the indices and the close on 1/3/06 for the CSSGX because funds are only priced at eod.
hey Doug, how are you handling the dividends in this contest? I notice that PFE's 0.24 quarterly payout gives Dio an adjusted opening of 23.12, and there are probably others on the list as well. Are you waiting until the end to account for these?
Ok, just re-read the rules, and saw that the dividends don't count. Guess that makes the scorekeeping easier, but why shouldn't they be factored in at the end?

Because it is too much of a hassle...Next year you can run the contest.
I know once a week is not really all that hard...But to be honest it is kind of a drag now...Of course, I will finish up the year...But I know how Rob probably feels...He was witty 5x a week and I always looked forward to his recap...But it is not a paying job and I realize people do have a real life.
At one time I had an email that went out to over 2,000 5x a week...It was tough...Some nights I couldn't think of anything worthwhile to say...If it had been a paying job I'm sure I would've continued...But I gave it up.
I have IIC100.com now but I will wait till the market gets better to actually do it.

The celebs didn't do much this week with only 4 advancing and 13 declining. Advancers were led by #1 FMCN +10.43% and #6 ERTS +5.15%. Decliners were #14 ESLR -11.14% and #2 ATI -6.04%. We now have 4 double digit gainers and 7 double digit losers.
Another cr*ppy week for the group (seems like I can just leave that first sentence up lately)
Pretty amazing that Mickey has held the top spot for over 6 months...even more amazing is that he has weathered a 25.6% drop since the intraday high of 16.44 way back on April 7th. I know I predicted months ago that Mickey would not win...But I'm changing my tune as my crystal ball now says that nobody will catch him.
Our A/D/U for the week was 9/17/0 as our YTD also dropped to 9/17/0 as Sis goes red w/ DVN.
We were down 1.31% for the week as our YTD dropped to -5.75%. But on the bright side 16 of 26 of us are beating CSSGX YTD...Any job openings at Duncan Hurst???
Speaking of CSSGX...Some joker in PA registered http://cssgx.com last September on the same day CSSGX debuted and now has it up for sale...I'd say it is worth about 5 bux.
This one's for Billy...Our resident Stock Lemon Expert...Now he can branch out to Mutual Fund Lemons...I ran across this Google Ad:
