Very tough week. Fed increased the rate this week. All indices took a big dump on thursday and friday. Most of the stocks were positive prior to the major drop.

What a terrible week for longs. Looks like the screen works for shorting possibilities as well. You've got to keep an eye on the overall market for this screen to be effective for you.

            Peanuts,
So after this period of time, 3 - 4 months, of running this experiment where do you stand as far as total percentages gain or loss?

From the original portfolio of 6 stocks (Mining the IBD, Striking Gold), the return to date is a negative 8.5%

That is the lowest return so far. The highest has been 26.4%, with one stock in the portfolio gaining 135% before pulling back.

I have found that the screen is better perceived as containing big movers in the market... whether that move is going to be up or down is for you to decide. That is why I have ammended this screen to reflect that. It has proven to include stocks that make big moves. Look at DXPE recently. It has been making big moves and showed up on this screen a few weeks back (sorry, that was not posted here because I was doing private analysis on the criteria at that time)

The IBD 100 and IIC 100 have been whacked lately...I watch them everyday...The IBD 100 Top 10 have dropped more than 10% over the last 2 weeks collectively...Look at the CSSGX...Huge pullback.

IBD stocks are chosen for MoMo...They gotta keep publishing lists...But a true CANSLIMMER would be in cash right now...Doug

                    5/26/06 screen results

I figured I would add the closing price on Friday to the lists so that it will be easier to track the results over time. So without further ado:

                    IBD 100:

                    GOL $31.51
                    DXPE $46.05
                    HITT $34.39
                    CBG $31.06
                    ALJ $31.06
                    HANS $183.18

                    CANSLIM:

                    DRQ $76.50
                    CCJ $41.91
                    LVS $69.63
                    RES $23.19

IBD's strength seems to be in naming what were the greatest stocks rather than what will be the greatest stocks. My portfolio over the last 9 months is far outpacing the CSSGX. How can that be ,given the resources and experience of the IBD people? I think what would be of value would be a list of 100 stocks that are almost qualified for the top 100. Since I stopped reading IBD and have no idea which stocks they are touting , I've not had one major tanking of a pick. That would include maybe 20 stocks. At one time when following IBD about 11 picks in a row were stopped at 8% most of them being from the IBD top 100.

Exactamundo! You can see this in how they calculate their RS rank and EPS scores. That's why I gave up on the paper years ago. It can help to know what's up each weekend in the IBD 100, for momo action on Monday, but don't use it to anticipate the market about anything.

                                last week's results

Major Indices move last week: DOW: -3.2%, NAZ: -3.4%, S&P500: -2.7%

TICKER, $beginning price, $ending price, 1 week percent return

                                IBD 100:
                                ALJ, 33.57, 30.25, -9.89%
                                HITT, 37.22, 34.36, -7.68%
                                HANS, 184.28, 165.76, -10.05%
                                CBG, 26.80, 24.26, -9.48%

                                CANSLIM:
                                DRQ, 82.96, 74.75, -9.90%
                                RES, 25.04, 22.72, -9.27%
                                LVS, 70.60, 65.50, -7.22%

The market took a major hit, again, this week on fears of inflation and increasing rate hikes from the under-respected Fed Chairman.
