I guess the alternative to experiencing criticism here at $$Mr Mkt$$'s HUGE forum.... Is being ignored. If you find yourself being ignored here, it's most likely because folks are afraid their responses to you will be ill received.
A balance of both criticism and praise is in order. Criticism, though it can be constructive, can also demotivate people. Praise lets other people know that they are appreciated and it reinforces good behavior. It's simple human nature... people avoid pain and persue pleasure

As for Vulcans... if it doesn't make logical sense, then it must be human

          • Rob, I’m looking at a micro stock TGE and was wondering what your read is on it. I think it hit my FA scans this week.

                        My 2¢ on TGE

TGC Industries, of Plano, TX (TGE), according to their profile on Yahoo, "primarily conducts three dimensional seismic and gravity surveys for oil and natural gas exploration and development companies. It also provides gravity information." I don't know diddly about oil and gas exploration, but it's a cinch that as long as oil prices remain high, companies such as this will be in demand—provided of course that they are reasonably well-managed. The fact that the company is almost 40 years old gives you the impression they won't disappear in the next two weeks, and that's good.

The chart of their earnings and sales growth looks heathly indeed.

Other good things include exceptional profit margins as well as excellent returns on equity, assets and capital. One thing you might want to keep an eye on is the price-to-sales ratio vs. others in the same industry. TGE's P/S is 4.1, which is kind of high. The industry avg. is about 2¾. It would require more digging to determine if in fact there might be a good reason why it's that high vs. others in the industry who have realtively low P/S, such as PAA (0.1), SXL (0.2), TPP (0.3), EEP (0.4) etc. (You won't like some of those charts.) Here's one possible reason to support that valuation metric: when I look at the income-per-employee number, it looks quite good; at 52,000 it's about 80% above the industry average.

All-in-all I think the company looks healthy and strong. Obviously their future strength hinges directly on the price for a barrel of crude, and as with any microcap, more volatility is to be be expected. I wouldn't avoid it, but if I bought it, I'd keep it on a short leash.

Rob, I think know the answer to the P/S ratio. It has to do with the area of operations. TX has the largest deposit of oil and gas shale. It's called the Barnett Shale Oil and Gas Play. Here's what Yahoo turns up when doing a search on Barnett Shale Oil and Gas: http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=ut...il%20and%20gas

TGE will have lots of business in the Barnett Shale play. Seismic testing is the best way to determine the probability of hitting deposits when horizontally drilling (the way shale deposits need to be done). Another company I've been watching is HWG (energy co)... the Yahoo board over there is pretty good- well informed people sharing knowledge with no worthless chatter. They can give you a better idea of what's happening in the area.

EOG is a big driller and well operator in the Barnett Shale region.

My momentum play, USLM, has gas wells in Barnett Shale also.

Barnett Shale will be $$$HUGE$$$ in the coming years. The name will become better known than it is today

Thanks for add'l input, P. It looks like there's a lot to learn about Barnett Shale for those serious investors in that corner of the market.
