What I don't understand is Rob's attachment to Imclone. Rob, what is it that you see there that is making you keep your money in it. Don't you think that the money could be served better somewhere else?

So I sold all my shares yesterday shortly after trading resumed and will wait to see what happens in the short term. In the meantime, I put in a ridiculously low buy limit order on some Aug. 40 calls. I don't expect it to get filled, but one never knows.

I made 19.58% on that particular long position in a little more than a year's time. If you take all the times I've been in and out of IMCL over the last several years, however, I'm still in the red.

investing in biotechs can be pretty frustrating, esp. with imclone. Put these on your watch list and buy on weakness, then dump imcl and never look back.

    Back Into IMCL

I reopened my IMCL long position for a buck and 32 cents higher than where I sold it a few days ago.

This baby's gonna run sometime between now and mid June, maybe as much as 25-30%. (Mark my words on that and throw them right back in my face if it doesn't happen.) The effect of the bad news release earlier this week was a lot less damaging than I expected, so I lost a little money on the deal. That's life.

Don't misundertake me, Jiesen. It isn't good news for cancer patients; it is, however, good news for ImClone and for those who are long IMCL stock, as I am. My long position has been beaten down for a long time due to the perceived threat from panitumumab coming to market and to the news reports that mislead people by saying in so many words: "Panitumumab is just as good as cetuximab but with bi-weekly dosing and fewer side effects," when the actual numbers from the available studies really didn't support the claim. And that was one of the things I've been complaining about: "irrational exuberance" for a competitive product I've always thought to be inferior that is sucking the lifeblood out of my long-term investment.

You have my sincerest sympathy with regard to your mother's illness. I don't know to what stage your mother's cancer has progressed, but I wish the most positive outcome for her. I watched my mother die of bladder cancer 8 years ago after it aggressively metasticized to bones in various parts of her body. It's a horribly helpless feeling to see a loved one in such a condition.

And there could be more good news for IMCL coming before the end of the month, and again in June. If things go today as it appears they will, then this is one of those days I was hanging on so long for. But really I believe there are more to come.

The 52-week high is 43.08, which is pretty much the 2-year high as well. Rock 'n' roll!

Naturally there will be some selling pressure, but I think things are generally in favor of the longs a this point.
Rob, congrats on the IMCL move. I wouldn't exactly call this news good though. IMCL basically gets a boost because Amgen's cancer drug isn't working. But not only that, the results showed that the combination of drugs they were testing likely had the effect of killing the patients in the study.

I do hope they succeed and bring a new colorectal cancer drug to market, though. My mother has colon cancer. Best of luck to IMCL, and you, Rob!

CNBC's Ineptitude at Running Their Own Contest

    Check this out:

As of Thursday morning, this was my standing in the CNBC "Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge":

Then after a very successful Friday, note the difference in my gains vs. my rank. This capture was made a few minutes ago this morning, after the top 25 list had already been updated:

I've already written four emails to CNBC's "customer care" dept. this morning, complaining about their poorly-run contest. This really ticks me off.

08:44 IMCL Imclone: BofA would build position; expects positive data points to drive 1st-line share of Erbitux in the 30% of patients that do not receive Avastin (29.22 ) -Update-
BofA notes IMCL is being helped by positive data this morning as IMCL and Merck KgaA and BMY reported that the 1st-line colorectal cancer Phase III trial met its primary end point of improving progression free survival. Firm expects the results to drive 1st-line share of Erbitux in the 30% of patients that do not receive Avastin, which represents a sizable opportunity for IMCL, potentially roughly $300 mln (based on numerous assumptions that could change). Firm says with a $2.1 bln enterprise value IMCL appears priced for failure, despite significant growth opportunities for Erbitux along with a promising pipeline that should see the start of two Phase III cancer programs in 2007, and other positives. While there is still considerable "hair" on this story, including the need to find a permanent CEO and obtain a non-exclusive Yeda license, firm would build positions here.

News driven spike. I hope it drives it up for Rob but I wouldn't be counting the chickens yet as this is only a preliminary report and has no value yet. Momo guys are driving it up and retail guys will get caught again in the tide.
Was up close to 2 points at 31.30 and is now coming back to earth as the momo guys take their gains. Now at around 30.55.
