I hope this list doesn't get leaked to our HR department, or it's likely to become company policy!

FYI...I was showing someone in my office this Excel tip:

If you use formulas which result in say 5 digits after the decimal point in each col. but you have it formatted to only display 2 digits after the decimal you can run into a problem when you total the column because even though you are only displaying 2 digits the formula will use all the digits in the calculation.

        Example:

        10.02402
        10.02312

        These would display as

        10.02
        10.02

The total you want to show is 20.04. But if you just run an addition formula your answer would be 20.04714 which would round to 20.05.

To remedy this you can do the following (There are other ways but I think this is the simplest):

You can frequently prevent floating point rounding errors from affecting your work by using the Precision as displayed option. This option forces the value of each number in the worksheet to be the precision that is displayed on the worksheet.

Note Use of the Precision as Displayed option can have cumulative calculation effects that can make your data increasingly inaccurate over time. Use this option only if you are certain that the displayed percision will maintain the accuracy of your data.

To use the Precision as displayed option, follow these steps:
1.On the Tools menu, click Options.2.On the Calculation tab, under Workbook options, click to select the Precision as displayed check box.3.Click OK.If you use the Precision as displayed option, you must format your numbers by using a specific number format.

To format cells to a specific number precision, follow these steps:
1.Select the cells that you want to format.2.On the Format menu, click Cells.3.On the Number tab, under Category, click Number.4.In the Decimal places box, select the precision (number of decimal places) that you want.5.Click OK.

          Thanks, Doug.

You can also use the Round function if you know the precision you want.

          For example:

          23.05678*234.345 = 5403.241109

          And, ROUND(23.05678*234.345,4) = 5403.2411

            Ah yes .......Marriage

            The world's shortest fairy tale.

Once upon a time a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?

            The girl said "" NO !! ""

And the guy lived happily ever after and went fishing, hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and farted whenever he wanted.

While we are on the subject of marriage, here is a link to a sheet of paper with some musings of a young man in his late twenties on the subject. (And this is the transcription.) Not to keep you in suspense: the result was in favor of marriage. A couple of months later he married his cousin, Emma Wedgwood, from the Wedgwood pottery dynasty.

I found the link on talk.origins, which is one of my worst time wasters on the web, not counting this site, of course.

I want to be fireman in 2nd life

Here's the kind of work you could be doing if you had chosen to be a fireman. From the Sioux City area all joined in a team effort to rescue a young girl stuck in steel fence. It took several hours to extract her from her predicament.

Fire Chief Stiffie said, "This was a pretty tough rescue, it took us quite a while to come up with a plan to safely extract her from the fence." Although the girl's entrapment was never life threatening it did take careful planning and gentle handling to safely remove her.

She was taken to an area hospital where she was examined and released.

Yes I did pray for that girl's rescue .thanx to all firemen involved !

The lunar eclipse is about 45 minutes along now @9:30 est and will last about 2 hours and 15 minutes longer. The sky is perfectly clear here. There's about a 1/4 slice of the moon showing .
