Keep that one in mind; it could win a Scrabble game for you some day, seven-letter word with an s and all.

    Sure it does. Merriam-Webster:
    Main Entry: wimp
    Pronunciation: 'wimp
    Function: noun
    Etymology: origin unknown
: a weak, cowardly, or ineffectual person
    - wimp·i·ness /'wim-pE-n&s/ noun
    - wimp·ish /'wim-pish/ adjective
    - wimp·ish·ness /-n&s/ noun
    - wimpy /'wim-pE/ adjective
Though it says etymology unknown, I'm inclined to agree with your explanation of its having come from the word whimper.

How long has the word been around? Who knows, but here is a book cover that's 68 years old:

Don't think I know anyone who smokes. Well a couple of people at the horse farm I guess. I kissed a couple of horses this week. None of them smoke. One tried to drink a cup of coffee though.

Anyway...The BEST talent IMO is getting people to do what you want them to do...And letting them think they got one over on you...Nothing is sweeter...Well, almost nothing...LOL
How about politicians, insurance salesmen, real estate people.

Actually its a PhD program so I won't be out in the "real world" for a while unless they kick me out.

That would be "smarter than I".

I have good luck getting people to do what I want them to do. Wouldn't call it sweet, just a matter of expedience.

Anyway, here's a pretty sure fire method for quitting cigarettes (it will either stop one from smoking or kill them): buy a pack of Gitanes or the other french brand, Gouillaise (sp), unwrapp them and let them set for about a month in your glove box, or better yet on the dashboard so they get nice and seasoned, then chain-smoke the whole thing in about 30 minutes. If it doesn't kill you doing so, the puking will be so severe and disgusting that every time you smell cigarettes you'll get that same feeling in the pit of your stomach.

According to Wood, Shakespeare was a pretty cool guy, struggled early on to support a large extended family, later his plays pulled huge crowds (2000+ at some performances). A charismatic fellow the implication is he got all the chicks he wanted. Had the stones to write plays not flattering to the royals (Richard III)At any rate not hint of wimpishness.

That would be doable for me Greb. Stratton in February is great. We ski in NY through March and into April some years. Vt. is definitely open in late March/earyl April.

We should hook up in Vermont some weekend. Maybe Stratton or Killington. That wouldn't be to far a drive for you would it? It's about a 6.5 hr. drive from where I live in New Jersey. We could get a group together some weekend after the first of the year.
