Its been reported that our most famous prodigal son, William H. Gates III, will return on June 7 to give the featured Commencement address. Gates of course dropped out of Harvard College in 1975 with pal Paul Allen to form a software firm and did OK, so they say, so now they're having him back. Gates is not the first to succeed without graduating as for example Edward Moore Kennedy who has risen to become the second most senior US Senator after getting his butt kicked out circa 1963 for supposedly cheating on a Spanish test.

Took small stakes in USB and MTB when they pulled back a smidge earlier this month cuz of the sub-prime flap (not such a pullback in USB). Anyway, neither has significant exposure to sub prime and each has excellent financials. What I'm hoping is that later this year they'll be further mortgage scares and/or one or both of these will have to increase their loan reserves. This hopefully will cause an overreaction and I'll be able to take a bigger stake in each at a good longer term price. Having a few shares now helps me focus on them better, which is probably silly.

She won't play Peanuts.... I've begged, groveled, pleaded etc.... Hey! Speaking of "Big Game"....LOL!

I always keep my trusty Remington slide action 308 in my office, just in case I spot a coyote while I'm gazing out of the window.... Well on Monday of this week I was on a highly important phone call and just as the conversation gets "heavy", I spy this fat skunk waddling right outside my office, swiftly heading into the back yard..... I thought about getting a "22".... but all my 22's are locked in my safe and I figured that stinkin' polecat would be long gone before I could get the rimfire out and loaded..... So being the quick thinker that I am, I apologized to my client, put the call on hold, slammed a clip of 150gr ballistic-tips into the 308, jacked the action and proceeded to sneak out onto my patio and took careful aim.... I was back to the call in about 30 seconds.... Later, I made my farmhand (Bobby) clean up the mess....Ssssssss!.... BTW, I really do hate a skunk.
              BEEF!... it's whats for dinner!

Interestingly enough, the New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez and the Boston Red Sox Manny Ramirez entered tonight's game at Fenway tied in # of RBIs since 1996. A-Rod has, regrettably, remedied that situation by homering twice for 4 RBIs in tonight's contest.

No one volunteered to tell Schilling he had to walk him.

                          Nevertheless the Sox won 7-6.

there's a great article in the latest New Yorker about Manny...if you love Manny you'll love that article. If you think he's slightly retarded...well, you'll just have to read the article and then make a decision. As flaky as he seems, (and that's an understatement), he has a habit of showing up at the park on game days early in the morning and just hanging out, waiting for the game to start. No one knows for sure when he arrived because he's already there when the first real humans arrive.

I didn't get there. Only go in the summer. Long sprint from Cambridge to Newburyport. Don't forget next month's meeting is the second Wednesday in the month not the third due to a conflict with some other poetry event.

Spent a nice morning picking up trash along the banks of the Charles with about 500 other people. In the afternoon went to the Harvard/Yale track meet. Don't know who won, its not a big deal. In the stadium at 4PM was Harvard/Holy Cross lacrosse. That IS a big deal, at least to some. They actually charge admission and serve lunch.
