Yes...Of course you are right...But Academia is not Real Life IMO

Not entirely clear that "Real Life" centers on one's occupation.

        Doug,
You make light of getting a masters degree. Do you have a MA or a
or MBA? It takes a lot of work doesn't it. I mean they just don't give it to you for showing up nowadays do they?

Gobs of people don't take school very seriously.

I was just thinking that this thread started out asking for the forum to ease up on the use of profanity. Now we've evolved into Louetta and her post grad work. And the transition was so subtle.

How about this. Academia or Macademia, it's all nuts to whoever isn't doing it.

Which reminds me, I never noticed much profanity here in the first place.

                  Clever but macademias are fattening.

And someone just gave us a box of chocolate covered Macademias for our wedding anniversary. They are excellent and my wife said the same thing about being fattening. I took the box to my office and none of the construction guys ever mentioned anything except, "do you mind if I take two". They didn't last very long at all.

I didn't make light of getting a Masters Degree...And no I don't have one...I made light of making Academia one's life ambition...Although I'm not totally against it...I just think there are better ways to live than "Theory"

And yes, it may take a lot of work to get a Masters at an Ivy League school...But I've had managers that worked for me that had Master's degrees...And although none got their's at an Ivy League school it must not be all that difficult to get one from my experience...Doug

Methinks it would be a great mistake to miss the opportunity I have. Something like 90% of the people who want to go just for the first four years can't get in. Its not being sheltered to be exposed to the people we have here.
