Sold 1/2 of SPKL in son's Roth for 1.93 , that's 93% gain in 10 days. Just had to take some off the table. I used to work all summer for much less than that. Thanks, Pete

I'm looking for some good bank stocks with P/E 13 or lower. Any idea on how to get this info free on the net? Actually am looking for any site that can sort stock symbols by industry group. Thanks.

Billie Check your brokers

Billie I think Schwab , Scott, and Ameritrade have filters.......that can screen out for low P/E stocks........but that is no gurantee that the lower P/E ratios will perform Better!

HALLOWEEN Trick Or Treat!

No Tricks here , but how about a "TREAT" Investment strategy?

1. Stocks perform best from Nov -April in any given year.
2. Small Caps outperform Large Caps during January....."The January Effect"
3. 90% of the profits for the Small Caps occur between Nov - January

What can you do to invest with almost absolute certainty during this Nov-Jan period? Do the following:

1. Buy the IWM (The Russell 2000 Index Exchange Traded Fund symbol) on the LAST trading day in October. This year 2007 it is Oct 31 or HALLOWEEN!
2. Immediately set a 15% TSL ( Trailing Stop Loss)
3. If the stop is not executed sell ALL the IWM shares on the LAST trading day in January.
4. Take all the proceeds from the sale in step 3 and Invest All into safe treasury bills or insured CD, and hold until LAST trading day in the following October , then SELL.
5. Take all the proceeds from the sale of T bills or CD and once again purchase IWM shares on the LAST trading day in October.
6. Keep on repeating the cycle.
7. For the less risk adverse instead of T Bills or CD Take all the proceeds and place into CGMFX CGM Focus Fund . CGMFX has the ability to hold both Long and Short postions in their portfolio . CGMFX had an excellent record even during the 2000 Bear market.
8. Of course the safest method would be the one utilizing the T-Bills or CD. That method has NOT had a losing year in the past 34 years !

I made up a quick screen at MSN. they have nice screens. You have to download MSN deluxe ( its free ) .
I put in North East banks. If you click on the arrow next to banks in "criteria" and highlight "banking", a bunch of choices will appear and you can change. you can easily add criteria such as growth.........

I like the sites that give information only and don't really recommend specific stocks. The newsletters have a tendency to give a big write up which they must think justifies the high monthly or yearly charge. Usually they include a big assumption that an occurance in the future will make their stock pick very desireable thereby making the price skyrocket. More times than not, the big occurance never takes place. Example: Starbux was going to open 10,000 new stores in China and everyone knows the Chinese love tea so certainly they'll drink coffee by the millions of gallons. Last time I looked SBUX was doing better before they went to the far east. Also MPEL was going to clean up with a monster casino in Macau where laws covering gaming were a little bit less stringent than in Vegas. What happened with that?

Just looked and MPEL seems to have a nice cup w/handle forming. What do you think, Doug?
