Congrats IIC - 2009 Winner of the PoTW !!
First, what a horrible week. Peter was the only 1 of us who didn’t lose anything. So he wins ! However, I’ve only been giving out awards to those who make some green, so sorry Peter, no 1st place reward this week

Congrats to IIC for winning this years Portfolio of the Week ! He only made 3 trades, but ended up with +131.19% of his investment ! Incredible !
Karel followed up with +25.69% using the same stock each week ! Very interesting strategy for the year, and it panned out very nicely. Congrats on 2nd place sir!
RL came in 3rd +16.73% with only 9 picks, but mostly good ones ! He only had 2 picks that were losers, and one break even. The rest were solid green, well done !
But hold on, this is a Portfolio of the Week contest, and though your ROI is very important, so are constant good pickers.
I’d also like to congratulate Karel for winning the most PotW for the year, all of them EXM ! He won 11 weeks this year, as well he was in the top 3 more often than anyone else, a total of 20 times ! Amazing…. Especially considering had anyone held EXM from Jan 1st of 2009 to Dec 31st of 2009, you would be down 12.5% right now…. Congrats again !
We can’t forget our other runner up, who did have a rough year but sure could pick’em ! Rob came in 2nd place 12 weeks this year. Well done !
It was a close call at then end for our 3rd placer Peanuts, as he took the most at 6 weeks. There were a few 5’s that could have tied him for it. Congrats !
Though we know Karel placed in the top 3 the most out of anyone, there are 3 others who tied for 2nd and 3rd, and 4th. Peter Hansen, Peanuts, and Rob all were in the top 3 positions 18 weeks out of the year ! That’s some good stock picking ! Follow these guys, they know a thing or two
Now for the math. Though it makes it difficult for this to really pan out if you don’t have a lot of picks, I will change that for next year. But for this year, IIC is our Math Expectancy Wizard ! His Math Exp came to be incalculable ! This is because he never had a loss. Well done ! From Captain Spike, anything over 0.42 makes you “an amazing skipper”
Which leads to the 2nd highest Math going to Lyehopper ! With a 0.96 ! Very nice sir ! Your good picks clearly outweigh your bad ones, a very good skill to have
Our Kelly Value winner again is IIC, with an also incalculable number, congrats ! This means that out of all of us, IIC can invest the most money for each of his picks to make a gain. RL did very well too with 0.42, coming in 2nd place. A lower number would mean you shouldn’t risk as much money with your picks as RL. And it showed with his only 2 losses of 9 picks. Well done sir !
And now the last things to note, IIC not only had won this year, he had the best Pick of the Week back in March. He took BAC long for a whopping +78.8% ! This is where he rocketed to first very quickly, only to be surpassed by Karel at one point during the year.
And of course, we have to point out the worst pick of the year. We’ve all had them. However, our worst pick does not come from someone who lost this year, it came from Karel with EXM, our 2nd place winner. The week of February 16 this year was none to kind as EXM took 34.28% away from Karel, though repaid it in full by the end.
And now a bit of irony I’d like to point out. I’m not sure how many of you know or play, but Spike, Rob, and I all run PotW contests of different variations, and all 3 of us came in last this year in Mr. Market’s Portfolio of the Week. Spike I can only guess gave up after suffering some major losses after a very good run up. I dug myself out of the hole only to fall back in, never was very good at manual labor
And poor Rob has had no luck at all, but had some great picks this year.
Thank you everyone for participating, even if but briefly. It’s a great way to see what others are thinking, share your own thoughts, be competitive and show off your mad Stock Picking skills
Besides boasting rights of course
So boast away winners, you’ve done good ! And congratulate those who beat you, for you may be the winner next year
Happy New Year !
