Sorry to hear that Doug.

I think you have a pretty good idea staying in stocks for only a few days in a market like this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression your brief exposure to a particular stock is designed to minimize the likelihood of bad news while you're holding it.

One bad week isn't going to ruin my year...it happens...and it always will. Basically you are right. There really doesn't seem to be much in the way of consistently strong stocks lately....Obviously there are some...but many are whippy which is dangerous.

I see problems in the Group/Sector movement too. One place I look for ideas is in IBD Groups. I look for Groups, not necessarily in top groups, that have moved up in rank. For example...I was looking at the Internet-isp group yesterday...it moved from # 110 to 48...Ooh, now there's a potential place for me to look...but you know what?...The group overall is down 3.2% since the close on April 8th. So I look at Leisure-Toys...moved from 138 to 71...But the group price is -6.3% since April 8th. In a better market this always seemed like a good way to catch some before everyone else knew about them.

Anyway, my standard ways of looking for ideas are kinda weak this year...that's why I decided to just try and find the one's that are moving at the time. That is also why I don't post a bunch of watchlists like I used to...Seems like the lists are outdated the next morning...IIC

I’ve seen the set all to often where the pop hits a wall and then drops and cleans the house. Tough markets require tough action for me I simply unplug my mouse and wait until direction is clear.. For me right now I think being long can cost a trader some money, but sure stocks went up today and they will tomorrow, but as far as Risk/Reward goes I will simply ride out the storm from the safety of land. I surely do not want a 70 foot wave hitting my little raft…
Your ways are not weak for finding stocks this Year; we just have a weak market!!

Nice chart Runner...but actually I was happy till about a week ago.

To be honest, I still am...I just need to be super-careful. Like this morn...Pre-M...I was pretty happy when I saw CNTY's numbers...there was some concern about sales...but I was pleased...then they get downgraded. If it was in my long-term portfolio, I would not be that concerned w/ the downgrade...but short term...I shoulda bailed quick...woulda saved me quite a bit. But mistakes are part of the game...I continually try to minimize them though.
