            • Doug, do you buy these stocks based off this crossing?

              • I’m not familiar with the MACD indicator. What are some of the positives and negatives of this indicator? How does it perform in a trending market and range bound one?

It is just one thing I look at...But it is pretty popular...The Default is 12,26,9...and that's what I'm talking about on the crossover lists...But I use 5,20,10 and peanuts 2,13,12 more often.

I also prefer a vertical move over than a meandering crossover.

This explains MACD better than I can:

I never did a study but crossovers seem to do better on market up days than down days...But a crossover by itself doesn't mean much to me...I would just use it in combo with some other indicators...In fact many crossovers don't do very well.

Doug thanks for the link. I have never looked into the MACD signal and will read the info from the link you posted…

I looked at SSRI and see caution here as it does appear to have lost some momo.. Hope it pops this current range for ya and moves into higher ground.

                        • Oh I see this MACD does a pretty nice job showing positive and negative divergences.

                          Comment

                          • I would be willing to say the positive divergences might carry more weight then a simple crossing of the signal line? Doug have you looked into this? Does Stockcharts allow you to set up a scan for divergence?

                            Comment

                            • Mindset for this scan might be a downtrend >6 months followed by a pop up and then another flush out in price. During this time look for signal line to cross up. Does this make any sense?

yes...I believe you are right...although I am not aware of a divergence scan at stockcharts, although it may be possible to write one
