As I’ve cautiously started adding positions, I came across another two that have piqued my interest, TREX and ENPH.

There was a minor correction since my last post, but of the previously mentioned stocks, AMT, ASML, SIVB, and OM are all up. DLR, MGNI, and APPN are down, but I still think these are attractive for buy and hold entries right now. I would add ADBE and LYV to the list. Still have to be careful as I am not convinced market troubles are over and we might be headed for a recession. I think a 15-20% stop with a trailing stop once they go positive is probably warranted. The Dow is currently flirting with a cup and handle, which would be a significant buy signal, but the NASDAQ and S&P are divergent and look more like they’re consolidating.

Sure looks to me like the NASDAQ and S&P are ready to do some buy and hold trading. Dow’s been there for a few weeks. Some nice trading patterns on stocks I like right now: AMT, ASML, DLR, MGNI just to name a few.

EDIT: Add SIVB, APPN, and OM as stocks that look attractive for entries both based on fundamentals and chart patterns. I don’t know if this beat down has ended so I know that I will personally use trailing stops to protect my positions, but there are a lot of value plays out there right now. What’s nice is that for a lot of these plays, the charts are setting up nice entries that have tight stops in case the whole thing comes crashing down again.

Just figured out I posted this in the wrong topic.

I was 84% cash. Last week put 5% into a mid-cap fund. Still have my GBTC.

Nor is COVID-19 going away this year, so my QDEL stock should also do just fine... already back to 100+ today!

Stocks are always a good investment to consider, I'd say now more than ever. When I said the market had to take a 20% tumble at some point, I didn't know it would take until this year, but you can never say exactly when these things will happen, just that they do happen, and will happen again, and again. So now that we have dropped from 4800 back down to 3900, is it a good time to buy stocks? Everyone is saying the economy is terrible, and stocks will fall more... that's the exact time you SHOULD be thinking about loading up more into stocks. You never know when it's the BEST time to buy, but at 3900, it's a heckuva lot better now to buy than it was 3-6 months ago at 4300 or 4600 S&P prices... sure, we could see another 500 point drop and be at 3400 by winter, but at SOME point in the next year or three I bet we'll be right back at 4400, and kicking ourselves for not buying stocks below 4000. (Hence, I've added some to my S&P index VTI from 4200 down through 3900.) Also, I've decided to buy into URA, just because it's uranium!

There probably isn't much out there that I'd want to buy for the long term right now as well. The market just has to take a 20% or 30% dump, and soon! After we're down 25% then I might consider stocks for the long term.... I'm sure if we're patient, we'll see that happen sometime within the next 6-18 months. Meantime, I will be holding cash, and lots of it.

Guys, I am going to discontinue my “Stocks for the long term” weekly updates. I may start it up again at some point, but right now I am almost exclusively day & swing trading so there’s just no need for it.

Good luck with your trading and investing.
