OK, I’m adding Antioch and his dad with the 20% penalty. Since the request was made yesterday during market hours. I’ll use today’s opening price. If John Henry objects later, we’ll deal with it, but I can’t imagine why he would mind.

Happy New Year!

You have until January 30, 2022 up to 11:59 PM PST to make a pick – Starting price will be January 31, 2022 closing price (per Google, unless it's shown that the Google price is incorrect). The contest will start on February 1, 2022. Any stocks trading on the NASDAQ, AMEX, NYSE or, OTC – Long or short.

We welcome IPOs if picked by the end of January 30, 2022 – Starting price will be the closing price of the IPO.

Picks submitted after January 30, 2022 are welcome – A 20% penalty of the closing price.

Short share price – Price when delisted plus a 20% penalty of the closing price.

A reverse split, split, or, symbol change – OK if you let us know prior to or on January 30, 2022. A 20% penalty for the extra research after January 30, 2022.

Well, we still have three picks beating the indices, but only one pick in the green. What can I say. It’s grim out there, and word is that we’re headed into a recession. Ugh. This contest is turning into survival of the fittest. We’ll see.

Oh brother, do I have to say it? This market stinks! The last two weeks have been pretty nasty, but what amazes me is that we still have three picks in the green. Congrats to our first three placeholders, Louetta’s GBTC, Jiesen’s QDEL, and Minni17’s OGN. We have a couple of more picks beating at least one of the indices, but they are still in the red. If this was a real money bet, I would have sold a long time ago. And here’s the thing. I think it’s going to get worse. Ugh. Hang in there folks.

In reference to my longstanding short pick of SHLD in this contest, as of March 2022 there are 23 remaining Sears stores. As of today, April 11, 2022, there are 3 remaining K-mart stores.

PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, April 8, 2022

It was an interesting week, down overall, but good for a number of our picks. The leaderboard tightened up considerably with only 1.23% separating our top three picks: Louetta’s GBTC, Jiesen’s QDEL, and Minni17’s OGN. All three of these so far excellent picks are in the green and beating the indices. BillyJoe’s UTHR and Massimo’s IPA, in fourth and fifth places respectively, also made nice moves this week and could be headed for green territory if the market cooperates a little. I won’t hold my breath on that, though. There is still a lot of downward pressure on the market right now including an imminent raising of interest rates by the Fed, inflation, shortages, and the Ukrainian war. I even read an article this week that says we may even be headed into a major recession in 2023. Of course these brilliant prognosticators have been wrong as much as they have been right, but just the mention of the big R tends to put negative pressure on the market. All I can say is keep your powder dry and your fingers crossed.
