While staying in cash may be a safe bet, there are also safe bets in high yield securities. As a safety net, I hold a LT position in Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railroad, ticker (PW). The dividend yield is great because of the tax deal associated with the company, and the stock price is not affected by market conditions, but continues to increase YOY. This railroad is used extensively for hauling coal... If you need to know more about coal, turn on your lights, or pick up anything made from steal. The real estate value of this company only gets better each year, and profits go directly to shareholders. You just can't go wrong...Hide not your talents.

I don't know about train wrecks having any kind of significant impact on it... maybe a one time earnings set back of a small amount, but insurance and the leasee should pay for the repairs / cleanup expenses and any possible lawsuits. PW owns the land and leases it to Norfolk and Western Railroad Company. I do not think that PW operate trains, but I may be wrong. They do have equipment which may or may not be used / leased if there was a problem along the railway and may, infact, benefit the company if a wreck occurs. PW, now that's a true micro cap at 13.29 million cap and 1000 shares traded per day. I like it but one train wreck could have dire consequences , couldn't it ?

The mkt cap and avg volume may scare some away from it, but the past stability and the dividend payout are what makes it attractive to me as an alternative to cash.Hide not your talents.

These plaques are selling for $175 each and there's a limited number of 250. Think of the investment potential.... I hate to put it this way, but there will come a day in the future when Mr Shatner will take that trip to the final frontier, while Capt Kirk lives on forever in reruns. It already happened to Scotty and McCoy...Heck, It'll happen to all of us. It's unavoidable. So....Why not profit from it?.... I'm betting that when the dreaded time comes, I will be able to sell my signed Plaque for at least double what I paid for it...jejeje
