They say a person can get numbers to say whatever they want and I guess that's the case here. IBD has ARLP in the "downs" for earnings today. Earnings down 40.2% from prior years same quarter and 54% under expected estimates. If this is true why didn't ARLP drop drastically today? What nunbers are significant? I've seen stocks drop 20% by missing earnings by 2 cents. It makes no sense. Please someone explain .

Stocks with very high PE ratios will be taken out back and shot if they miss earnings by even a penny.
Stocks with low PE's (the ones I favor) don't react as badly to negative news because they are already cheap.=============================

Mr. Market, you da man, what you just explained makes perfect sense. What is your max tolerance of a stocks PE? I’m not much of a fundamental guy, but would be interested in learning a little about this. I may have heard somewhere that many investors focus on PE’s under 25? Maybe someone can enlighten me?
