Here is a view of the software running on my PC right now.
As you can see, it's targetting Malaria at the moment, and it shows a picture of the malaria dna or whatever. And it is computing the 'docking energy' for each 'conformer' that your PC is allocated. The lower the 'docking energy' the better it is for drug design. So your PC is used to 'discover' the best molecule candidate in the fight against disease. Cool huh.

Hey Spike, you sure this thing is safe to be running all by its self? I’d be afraid some hacker thing might corrupt my hard drive or something crazy happen. I’d hate for someone to grab my trading account password.

FYI, you should probably get the 'No Java Virtual Machine" one. its smaller and pretty much every computer already has a Java VM on it.

Oops, I accidently put a comma instead of a period in my email address. I hope it still works.

Runner, I have no fears whatsoever regarding the D2OL program and potential hacking. As I understand it, D2OL's servers are secure. There are huge numbers of participants in this project (just check out this list of teams http://app.d2ol.com/memberServices/t...up.jsp?mth=all) and I've not read of any security issues at all. There is this forum http://www.d2ol.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi you could post your question to if you want to confirm.
No doubt you have a good firewall, and you can configure this application to access your PC through a designated port or proxy.

                Hello Spike,

wonderful idea, I am in! This is certainly better than something like that extraterrestrial signals search thingy, what was it?

I noticed that you gave the index page of the forum as group page. Perhaps it is better to refer to this topic:
http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/forum/...read.php?t=707 and keep all our d2ol discussions in here.

Excellent Karel! Welcome to the team!

Yes, that ET thing was SETI (search for ET intelligence). I ran that for a while but lost interest because it wasn't a very productive exercise. With D2OL, it's a much more inspirational goal and the project has a much greater need than searching for little green men in my humble opinion.

Congratulations to Karel are in order. He has already 'discovered' the best SARS Target Candidate for the Mr Market team.

How long can he retain his Title?

And for the record, Mr Market Team just advanced to No. 574 on the list of Top Teams

I think a good goal for our team is to hit the Top 250. That would be an impressive accomplishment.

Come on Mr Market forum members, join in and help!

Pointless and meaningless or altruistic and philanthropic?

Just how big a difference can contributing in this project make?

Well check the stats out in the picture.

Since the project started (around 2002??) a total of 3350 years worth of total docking time has been recorded. There is close to 3 years worth of docking time analysis done each day.

Big deal? Well, this means that our disease targets are being pounded with potential drug candidates at a phenomenal rate each day. It's just a matter of time before one of our otherwise idle computers finds the key to unlocking the puzzle of the diseases being researched. That key is in the form of finding the best drug candidate molecule with the lowest energy rating, like those found in the all-time top drug candidates discovered thus far in the project, found here.

Yes, this silly project does make a difference after all. So what are ya waiting fer pilgrim? Throw your unused idle PC time behind the momentum of this fantastic cause. You might just become famous for finding the best candidate for Anthrax, Ebola or SARS.

Alright, I'm finally downloaded and registered!

I did the SETI search thing, until they wanted you to pay to do it. Being the Vulcan I am, I've always been keen on the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. I really believe that there are plenty of other planets, much like ours. The universe is huge. Anyways, that's a whole other subject...Let's get on with the search for cures!
