        Hi sis ,

I waited a bit, but you still don't show up in the stats, so something might be wrong. I think it is best to use your own email address, and to join Spike's team "Mr Market is HUGE". To do that, you go to http://app.d2ol.com/memberServices/createMember.jsp

In that page you need to use your own email address, spikeĀ“s address would already be known. But the address you put here should also be the email address you used with the installation of the D2OL client. Did you do all this? problems? Just holler.

        Regards,

          Hey Karel..

I used spikefader's address.... its been running like crazy... Last night was the first time I turned off my pc. I hope your not saying that all that time was waisted. When I went to the site you just gave me.. I put in my id number and then it ask for the address that I registered in which was spikes. Do I need to restart the whole thing to use my address? On the bottom of the page I have filled area so it looks like I did get something done but not sure.

Karel.. ok.. I did not do this step but did now. I think it looks like it is registering now. I think I may have lost some time since it has been running for a few days and it says just one day and hours. Hope its all fixed now.

I leave my pc on most of time. I think I am a team member now. let me know if there are still problems that you find.

            Blessed day to you.

              Hi Dena,

You show up on the stats screen for our team with 142 candidates crunched. So everything is OK, and that is a nice start. We are 79th overall and 40th for the week, so we have room to climb. The air is a bit rarefied on these heights, with great gaps between the positions, and then there is the stronger opposition too, so it will take some time to gain some ground. It appears that Yaoyao also started crunching again. That leaves jiesen, Runner, Linz, Lala2, spikefader, MickyMouse, Websman, and scifos. Come on people, we are investors who care!

              Regards,

It sure seem like I dont run that program very much.... I just dont understand. I run it 24/7. Its only off if I am playing bridge. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

                  Hello Dena,

you now have 323 behind your name, so everything looks OK. When D2OL is running, you don't notice it very much.

A tip: right-click on the little D2OL icon in the system tray (bottom right of the screen). Choose Properties. Click General. There you see an option "Candidate Queue Size". Set this to somewhere between 500-2000. Reason: when the program has crunched all candidates in the queue and can't reach the D2OL server for whatever reason, it has to idle. The first time you do it, it might take some time to fill the queue. A queue of 500 might be good for about a week of work. D2OL regularly uploads finished results and refills the queue.

And when you have upped that number, uncheck Launch Main Window On Startup and Enable Animations. And the main window is unnecessary when you are crunching; close it if you have it open!

                  Regards,

                  Karel

Little update: currently no completed tasks can be uploaded for some reason or another. So if the program has emptied the queue, it can only twiddle its thumbs. (At no cost to the processing power of your computer.)

                    Regards,

I think a bump is in order. D2OL is reshuffling its distributed computing efforts, and things look good. Not that they looked bad, but things were uninspiring. They noticed and are taking steps.

One of the results of reshuffling is that the scores were all reset It appeared that cheating was possible, that is why. That is also why I feel lonely at the top of the stats list, and I would like to invite all old members back, and new team members in. Donate your spare CPU cycles for the effort to combat diseases! You have more of those spare cycles than you would think, and fighting disease is a nice alternative to doing nothing! ("idling" in computer terms) More info at the start of this thread.

BTW, the reset cleaned out a lot of dead wood, so the $$$Mr.Market$$$ team is now 48th. A chance to get even higher! (this link is to the most recent list: http://app.d2ol.com/stats/topTeams.jsp )

                      Regards,

If the problems go away when you remove D2OL, then by all means remove it. The software is supposed to be inobtrusive. However, it is possible to run D2OL as a screensaver only: "[The screensaver] is mainly meant for users that choose to run the D2OL Agent Node only as a Screen Saver". (From the screen saver Readme.) In other words: when the screensaver pops up, D2OL starts crunching, when the screensaver is inactivated, D2OL stops. (On slower machines, the screen saver may need some time to stop the calculating engine.) A fast Internet connection only helps when downloading tasks and uploading results, which happens one or two times a day.

The download link is on http://www.d2ol.com/dOL/download_instructions.html
