Back from vacation. Was a nice rest and its always good to see the family and friends. Anyways,
Very few canidates I'm looking at right now, and the Freight Train is pretty thin. I might stay cash for a few days. But if you must, here are a few symbols to look at.
CNQ: Never made the run to 62. Has a bullish englufing. Probably a hold.
BRY: Took a big stumble late last week, just after posting record earnings. I can't seem to find any news relating to the drop though. Tenitevly looking for a correction, althought I can't be sure since I don't know much about it. Just touched the bottom of the 3-month regression channel and made a small move up, which is why I think it might move higher.
BMHC: Declared a cash dividend recently. It's had a few rough days, but is right at volume support and it touching the lower channel. Could be a good entry point. Beware the HUGE volume gap, set tight stops.
Various others:
NUE nice gap up, but watch out for a fill.

Clhb
Playing around with a new way to pick stocks. Basically looking for ADX crossovers and parabolic SAR buy signals to find some stuff. DD and other factors must go into an actual buy decision though. One that came up today is CLHB. Was up 16% today on an earnings report of 21% revenue growth last quarter.
Take a look:
Edit: Another good point is that the ADX is between +DI and -DI and that it is upward sloping (just barely though). I'll probably buy this if it's up above 20.75 tomorrow (Extreme point rule: if it breaks the intraday high the next day then the buy signal is confirmed).Last edited by scifos; 03-15-2005, 11:20 PM.Buy Low

Another stock I've found using a ADX/SAR method is RCL. Will do a write up w/ chart later tonight unless I'm out partying (St. Patrick's day is my birthday). In the mean time, check it out.

Update on RCL, the DI lines are seperating, which is good. I'd say the buy signal has been confirmed. Now if the ADX turns back up we will know that the negative momentum has been totally defeated and positive momentum has been clearly established.
Another one I came across is DOVP. Parabolic SAR buy signal a few days ago, just had a +DI/-DI crossover. The buy signal would be confirmed if price breaks 14.52 (the day's high) on monday. Has also moved into the upper channel of the 3-month reg channel.
Same story with ICOS.
Just a note to readers: I've only started looking at this stuff recently. I am no expert nor do I know if it even provides me with reliable buy/sell signals. Make your own trading decisions. This is more of a signal study than an actual working trading tool at this point.Buy Low

Further update on RCL, their COO resigned on Friday. That triggered a -5% move today. That would have triggered the SAR stop @ 45.50 today for a 4.2% loss from the buy signal @47.5. It also caused the +DI to cross below -DI.
ICOS: still holding, but would like to see either the ADX turn up soon or the +DI and -DI lines seperate. Right now it's really flat.
DOVP: the buy @ 13.50 is still holding, but this one is also being very flat.Buy Low

One from monday I forgot to post here, LF. March 14th saw a confluence of signals. The DMI crossover signal came a few days later on the 21st. Went long at the open on yesterday.
DOVP's ADX is still dropping and I'm not getting any seperation btw +DI/-DI. I'm watching in case ADX to drop a little more then the SAR signals will be worthless.Buy Low

Heads up in ICOS: downgraded on poor drug test results.
Also, SNHY mentioned earlier in this thread declared a divvy and is up 25% since I mentoned it. Most others from my last freight train post are flat except for BRY @ -7%
I might be out of town for easter this weekend but if not then I'll do some stock hunting this weekend and update the freight train and look or some more ADX/SAR crossover stuff. So far the ones i've found using the ADX/SAR have been mixed.Last edited by scifos; 03-25-2005, 05:58 AM.Buy Low

Sorry it's been awhile. Some old news first
ICOS: closed out march 24th via the negative DI crossover.
LF: hit the P-SAR stop on april 1 @ 11.35 for a 1% gain.
MOGN: saw it touch the P-SAR stop today, will exit tomorrow if it's lower.
I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff over the past few weeks. But it seems like this method isn't producing anything anyways.Buy Low

Well, I was searching around in the forums and remembered this thread. I haven't been using ADX/P-SAR for a long time. It seems like I'm always tinkering around with different stuff, and lately i've been using some Stochastics. What I've been playing with lately is to take a list of fundamentally sound stocks, and apply a 20 period slow stochastic. when the STO is crosses the 20 day EMA of the sto (basically like a %D of 20, except this is an ema, not sma like %D) that provides the signal.
I've got an excel spreadsheet where I can list a number of symbols and it will fetch yahoo historical data for it and compute the signals.
A quick look at the DOW components looks like:
AIG a short
BA a buy
GE a buy
HD possible short
JNJ a buy
JPM possible short
KO possible short
MCD possible short
MMM possible short
MO possible short
