    Billy joe,

I just finished listening to a show on that you should not sell on gap downs. They said that usually within 5 days the gap closes. Now I know for a fact that does not always happen but with a gap down I think you should atleast wait the one day and then place the stop below that low. I guess we will see how that one will play out.
    DMK,
MOT was much lower in after hours trading than the opening price. My sell price was about .5% higher than the open. My experience has been that gaps down keep growing at least in one's I've had. By the time I sold, was glad not to have a >10% loss which it could have been and by that time the near future for MOT was not looking promising IMO.

      Ski,
True, at the highest point from my purchase of MOT on 9/20/06 I had a 1.19 or 4.74% gain , however, the lowest the stock went in regular hours was .66 or 2.6% above my purchase price. The big drop was in extended hours trading during which my limit order very likely wouldn't have triggered. Also I saw very little gain until 2 days before earnings which looked promising especially when MOT surprised everyone by announcing they would release them 2 days early. In most cases I wouldn't put a trailing stop on just a 4.74% gain unless I was considering it to be a very short term hold. See post #1302 on "My Pick is ELN" thread

I can appreciate that Billyjoe. I know that a large part of the drop was in the AH. I was thinking that with the earning release that close it would have been to your advantage. I don't think that stops placed during regular market hours are honored in the AH or PM. Hate to see the gains given back but I just did the same thing with a large gain yesterday at the open with ECOL.

Nasty reversal on the ECOL, ski...

I was watching it at the open and it kind of caught me by surprise with that spike up. The next thing I know it had fallen like a rock. It did kind of come back to the 22 range but I still didn't exit. I was pissed off at myself all day because of that. I really feel that i should have taken the whole thing off the table right there at the 22 range. That would have been a 1.7 gain and if I had of gotten out at the high of the day at 22.95 the gain would have been much more. I can't complain but I think it was a missed opportunity on my part.
It is still making the right side of it's cup and I like the formation but if I had taken it all off the table if it does drop more from here that would make the re-entry even sweeter. No sense dwelling on lost opportunities.

            Ski,
This is not good. Another gap down on my LRW. 10% in PM. Am still holding . You can ad GOOG @424.58 in my entries. Still pondering LRW fate.

                Ski,
Sold LRW @16.37 gained 2% over opening price. The gap got me again. They met earnings, missed revenue by 9 mil. , and lowered 4th quarter guidance.
------ MO is up after announcing delay of earnings by one day. It is suspected they might announce Kraft spinoff.

                  BAD MISTAKE.

                    Billyjoe,
Saw that on the Briefing.com newswire early this morning. It's a big edge getting the news before the open and I think the price of 29.95 a month for the platimum service is well worth it knowing what is going on before the open. Glad you salvaged a plus balance on the trade.

                      Ski,
I'm 0 for 2 in earnings so far with GOOG due in minutes and MO and ELN next Wednesday. 3 for 5 would be great.

                          Ski,
GOOG more than made up for LRW. Things are looking up.

That's great Billyjoe. Just make sure you protect those gains tomorrow. Someone really likes it. There was an afterhours purchase of 3.049 million shares at 453. That's alot of money isn't it. I think that's over a billion dollars.
