that's a long time to spend eating ernie. just kidding. i agree with you and i would be the first to state that i am blessed beyond belief in numerous ways. and for that i always try to give back whenever i have a chance in the same fashion as you do but i will not contribute to anyone in any way that will contribute to or propogate the reasons behind their misfortunes in the first place. the scene in philadelphia has worsened since my last trip there. there are more people along that same strip of the Ben Franklin Parkway now then ever. it's a shame to see that in this great country of ours but i see it as a worsening situation rather than it improving. i guess you have to start somewhere and feeding the needy is a good place to begin. i'm beginning to see it as an unmanageable situation just as our government seems to be coming to the point where it seems that the problems are now becoming so large that they are unmanageable. couple that with the bozos we have in washington, on both sides, and we're all in a bad spot.Originally posted by mrmarket View PostI spent all morning today in a soup kitchen in Trenton. anyway, spent 3 hrs. at the philadelphia museum of art this afternoon and viewed a number of painting, drawings, and etching by Picasso and several other painters, of prominence, that i didnt know about. two guys in particular were George Braque and John Gries. not sure if i got the spelling right on the second guys last name which wasn't his real name anyway. it was a long spanish name. along with them they had at least two dozen other artists who were prominent during that cubist period. and that period was broken into several other areas of cubism which i dont remember the names. Picasso got the most attention and notoriety but in my opinion he wasnt the best of the group. I liked Braque and Gries work moreso than picassos. we only pass thru life once and i like the idea of taking in as much as i can of the great masters of art, music, etc. that i can. I've viewed exhibits of a number of the greats. I can't say that Picasso and the people of this period and style are to my liking but there were several painting that i liked alot and probably more that didn't impress me. they had their own community in paris and i think they were somewhat elitist along with some prominent writers of that period. anyone living in or near the phila./nyc area have a great opportunity to witness their work at either the phila. museum or the nyc museum. going to see Renoir - the later years in june 2010 and Michaelangelo in sept 2010. if you ever get the chance to go to the phila. museum of art you should make avail of it. you could easily spend a week there looking at all kinds of exhibits from paintings to armor to statues from every civilization across the board of time.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR

The Gold Dollars
While sitting in a Starbucks with a friend some guy comes over and gives my friend and I each a Gold Toned Dollar coin ....I first thought to myself WTF does this character want ? What was his hussle? As it turns out , he explained that he just hands out these coins to complete strangers and watches their expressions . He explained that by giving money out , he will eventually get more money back in return, and in the process he is having fun doing it.
Strange dude , but I do beleive that if you give out mony and help people it will definitely come back to you in many ways !

If each of us does a little, the government won't have to do anything. They are horribly inefficient and corrupt as it is. Since your talking about the needy, I thought I would add this little video link which shows the growth of the US unemployment rate throughout the country from 2007 to today in a 31 second long clip. The lines at the soup kitchens could get longer, sooner. It's tough to say when it turn around for America, but I'm not seeing many signs of it around here.
The data is divided by counties. You've got to watch this:

my thinking has been evolving to where i now am beginning to believe that the size of the debt and interest on that debt, the ensuing problems with corporate outsourcing, corporations leaving the US for cheaper labor markets leaving much less industrial manufacturing here which provides jobs here, the size and involvement of govt in our lives along with the natural bred incopetence of most politicians, the bipartisanism between both parties, and the magnitude to which state and federal govt. has grown has created an ungovernable situation where the only answer may lie in the complete collaspe of our economic system. which in turn could supply the impetus for the entire collaspe of the worlds economy. which will provide for the growth of anarchy. is that an overly pessimistic and neurotic thought because like peanuts states in the next post, "i don't see anything getting any better around my neck of the woods" and i am a player who is trying 110% to create new work and business for my business without any real success of late. as far as i am concerned we are in dire straits and the outlook going forward is bleak right now and this administration and the govt in general is not and cannot seem to do anything about it except BS us on how their programs are working.Originally posted by mrmarket View PostIf each of us does a little, the government won't have to do anything. My Medical Bill
What a mostrosity that Harry Reid Nancy Pelosi bill is. .....throw the whole 2,000 plus page bill into the Shi*can, and follow Pete's SIMPLE 4 point plan!
1. Initiate TORT Reform why should neurosurgeons pay a $200,000 insurance bill? .......LIMIT The lawyers abilty to sue by placing a $250,000 cap on lawsuits.
2. Insurance across state lines......let the buyer have the choice to buy insurance from any state.
3. Have outside auditors and efficiency experts examine and root out all corruption and waste from Medicare , Medicaid , Social Security and all other government proograms.
4. Pass a small tax on ALL FATTY foods KFC, Cinnabuns , with all proceeds going into a medical fund to help US CITIZENS with medical care. Those people who eat KFC, and food from other fatty food companies will simply pay a few pennies extra on that bucket of chicken ....and in essence when those people come down with high blood pressure , stroke, obesity and high cholesterol they will be paying for their own health insurance . Michelle Obama has just initiated a big anti obesity campaign. Just as TOBACCO has been demonized and banged with huge fines so should these fatty food companies. How about a sign on each bucket of chicken ..."Consumption Of This Food Will result In Obesity and Other Health Hazzards"
There ya have it a short bill that would solve the Medical care problem!

i saw that too wooish. actually it was the only fact that i didnt like about the stock. i think it could drop some more here but my wave count and analysis is telling me that it goes higher after a small correction. i dont think it will see $14, or am hoping it won't, but alot depends on the market conditions this week. it has been consolidating and somewhat rangebound over the past week or so since i mentioned it and bought it. we'll see for sure this week. this morning i went back and took a look at the 6 month weekly. it is abit in the oversold area above the RSI 70 line but although it would make me a bit cautious i dont think that it is way oversold. regarding 2 year time frames. i very seldom look at anything over 6 months back unless i am trading a currencie. 14 would be a big drop but and if you were to look at the 6 mo. weekly it would be right at the top of that last big spike up from that last gap up back in dec 09. right now i think it's momentum is a continuation of making the right side of it's cup base. then it should go into making it's handle which would be another corrective action. but if the markets cooperate im feeling that it will continue up from here. it has shown strengh and resiliency over the past several days in that although selling off and correcting the bottom hasn't fallen out. there are people out there buying it at these levels.Originally posted by wooish View PostSki
I was looking at the NYB chart today. Both the 2 year daily and weekly chart shows the stock is in the overbought territory. I could be looking at it wrong but I think the stock might see $14s before seeing $18s.Last edited by skiracer; 02-22-2010, 09:02 AM.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR

AMEN! Ernie, I once worked in and eventually ran a weekly "Sunday lunch" program at the church. The services in our city for the homeless were/are so good that they attracted tons of down-and-outers from other states, mainly the deep south. I learned a big lesson. Although most of them genuinely needed help because of unemployment etc., there were so very many that ended up there simply because of their own stupid decisions. It was very discouraging and I remembered the words "The poor will always be with us." No matter how much we try, Ski is right that the root problems need to be addressed. But I think these problems are still intractable. Having said that, I still give out of compassion.Originally posted by Belaruski View Postthat's a long time to spend eating ernie. just kidding. i agree with you and i would be the first to state that i am blessed beyond belief in numerous ways. and for that i always try to give back whenever i have a chance in the same fashion as you do but i will not contribute to anyone in any way that will contribute to or propogate the reasons behind their misfortunes in the first place. the scene in philadelphia has worsened since my last trip there. there are more people along that same strip of the Ben Franklin Parkway now then ever. it's a shame to see that in this great country of ours but i see it as a worsening situation rather than it improving. i guess you have to start somewhere and feeding the needy is a good place to begin. i'm beginning to see it as an unmanageable situation just as our government seems to be coming to the point where it seems that the problems are now becoming so large that they are unmanageable. couple that with the bozos we have in washington, on both sides, and we're all in a bad spot.

Hmmm... maybe I wasn't wrong, maybe just early.

Some bozo, matthew sheerin, at Weisel Partners downgraded the stock from Overweight to Market Weight this morning and triggered this selloff today. the companies earnings report on 2/09/10 for qtr. 4 2009 was 5% higher than analysts estimates and they actually upgraded their guidance for qtr. 1 2010 to 630 /670 million from analysts expections of 594.6. this guy had a target of $11 and since they were close to that last week this morning i guess he figured that they wouldn't be going much higher. I just bought another 1000 shares at $9.58 and entered it as my pick in this weeks contest. personally i think it is a windfall and an opportunity for another great entry. if i felt that it was a great shorting candidate i would certainly short it but if you haven't shorted it yet or earllier this morning then i think you may have missed the boat on the short play. maybe you should consider another long entry at this price level.Originally posted by riverbabe View PostHmmm... maybe I wasn't wrong, maybe just early.Last edited by skiracer; 02-22-2010, 04:45 PM.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR
