HOV up another .21 today to close at $1.96. That's a meager .86 since I mentioned it here a couple of months ago and a meager 78% gain in a couple of months.
GCA closed today at $4.86 up .17 today and + .61 or +14.3% over the past 2-3 wks.
TASR was a 7.8 % loss. Indicative of cutting your losses short and letting the winners run out and maximizing the opportunity when you are fortunate enough to fall into one.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR

Billjoe has ignited my competitive juices with his dividend stock game. Maybe its time we had a little stock picking contest like we used to have here. I would suggest 1 pick per week / has to be $10 or more in price / has to be in before opening bell on Monday a.m. or you're not in that week / no changes during the week / and highest gain from open Monday wins / play can be either long or short / $1.00 per week to play per player would make it worthwhile just to keep it interesting and gain our incentive but not necessary although that would make it more interesting and fun. Maybe settle up at the end of each month. Worse you could do would be to lose $4-5 a month. I would take care of it and run it. but lets keep it simple and uncomplicated as stated above just to have some fun and weed out the wheat from the chaff perhaps.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR

Thanks Mike. I havent been doing as much lately as I usually do but this is turning out a nice one. I didnt mention that I bought it several times in the $3.50 to 3.75 ranges and took a few losses of 7% but I kept the losses to a min. so this one will make up for those other ones. One of my penny plays is turning out to be a real winner. Already sitting on free shares after a triple. Other than that, I've been reaping the small rewards that the market has been offering lately and tweaking a equity&option strategy that has been paying off anywhere from 3-4% a month. Not looking forward to the taxes. But I am looking forward to complaining of foggy goggles once we get some sustained snow in PA.Originally posted by skiracer View PostThanks Mike. Last year my buddy Henrik and I skiied Camelback in PA a couple of times a week lasy year. its only 2 hr drive for us. dont know what it is from Pitts. im sure there is an airport nearby that you could fly into. anything farther out from us and closer to you between 4-5 hrs. that is worth skiing. havent been yet this year. thought we would have gone by now but conditions are not good and there hasnt been to much snow up there.Originally posted by peanuts View PostOne of my penny plays is turning out to be a real winner. I know the family and the company. They are Armenians and are sharp merchandise and camel traders for centuries. They are very very frugal and although the companies stock is way down from its highs the company is quite solvent and they are sitting on a pile of cash. There is no real debt or I should say pressing debt to account for. What they are doing in NJ and across the country has been acquiring land at depressed prices. vast acquisitions, very cheap, that will put them in a great position to build their retirement communities and other housing developments when the worm turns and the worm is going to have to turn for housing if the economy is going to recover and Obama wants any chance of getting re-elected. I dont want the bastard to get re-elected but it looks like housing is going to recover to some larger degree in this re-election process. We might as well profit from the opportunity whether we like him or not. The stock has never sold this low since the inception of the company. Everyone I know in this area has been buying the stock. They are a local outfit and started right here in the Toms River, Ocean County area of NJ. Very big presence here and in Monmouth Co. which is just north of Ocean Cty. I dont have any inside info other than what I have just mentioned but I know they are taking advantage of this opportunity to acquire land cheap and land is what drives their company. How about if I said I think the stock goes above $10 this year from $1.00 range. Im in at $1.10 level and own several thousand shares which has doubled from my entry. you could do alot worse than buying a thousand or so shares and just sitting on them for a while. I wish yourself and others here would have taken advantage of the buying opportunity when I first mentioned it here a few months back. Still not to late but the boat has left the dock.Originally posted by billyjoe View PostSki,
You've probably got more construction expertise than anyone on this forum. What do you expect to see this year from HOV that makes you optimistic especially in comparison to its peers? Thanks.

as far as their peers go, I would assume all other the major builders are doing the same thing where they can. I like a few of them that have been hit hard by the housing slump but HOV is a major that has been hit hard and the price right here is really cheap.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR
