Excellent. Just got into my office and will try it as you have posted in a little bit. Thanks Rob. This is exactly the kind of "watching your back, that makes this such a great forum. Thanks again MIMO for the original Excel sheet.Originally posted by Rob View PostSki, my version of Excel is 2000. If you're using a different version, the precise steps you need to take may differ a little from these below, but this should get you close enough to figure out the rest.- Highlight just the numbers.
- Right-click.
- Copy.
- Open Notepad.
- Paste.
- Save to desktop (or folder of your choice) with a name such as numbers.txt.
- Open new workbook in Excel.
- Select Open from File pop-up menu.
- At the bottom of the dialog box, select Text Files in "Files of Type".
- Navigate to folder where your file is and open the file.
- In the Text Import Wizard, select the "Delimited" radio button.
- Click Next.
- Click Next again.
- Click Finish.

I'm using Excel 2003, which I don't think will make a difference. I'll get back if I have any questions or a hard time.THE SKIRACER'S EDGE: MAKE THE EDGE IN YOUR FAVOR

 AXR gives a momentum signal

My observations on AXR and my momentum calculation.Originally posted by mimo_100 View PostHere is an Excel chart for “momentum” on the S&P 500 since July 14. I have observed that when the “momentum” exceeds 70, the index rallies quite nicely. For stocks, the momentum number is closer to 78. Any comments? The calculations are below.

 <snip>

 Tim

MrMarket bought AXR at $49.80 on July 6th. My momentum calculation was 49.83%, much too low for me to jump in.

The momentum had previously broken 78% on 2/17/2006 and remained above 78% the entire time including July 6th, where it was trending down from a high of 100% not too many weeks earlier. On July 6th the momentum was 83.08%. Using this knowledge plus a couple of other indicators, I opted to wait a few days before buying. Sure enough, the momentum broke down thru 78% from the upside, and has not seen 78% until just recently, September 18 at 78.72%.

AXR appears poised to attack MrMarket’s $57.45 target.

Of course all of this is easy to write since I am looking in a rear view mirror, but more importantly, I this time made the correct decision.Last edited by mimo_100; 09-21-2006, 11:26 AM.Tim - Retired Problem Solver

Was just walking my small puppy and a couple birds were circling above. It's very windy here today. I thought they were buzzards until I saw the white tails and heads. A pair of bald eagles were looking at the puppy for lunch. They got within about 50 feet and we high tailed it out of there.

 Gas Prices

I just filled up my wife's car last night, and for the first time in recent memory (I think since last winter) the price was less than $2.00 a gallon; it was $1.999.

 I like that trend.

 ---------------------------

Edit: Yep ... just checked my records, and I see that the last time I paid less than $2.00/gal. was Feb. 23 this year, when I paid $1.969.Last edited by Rob; 09-27-2006, 09:16 AM.—Rob

Billy.... If you drew your sidearm and killed two Bald Eagles while they were assaulting your puppy, would you still be convicted of a felony?Originally posted by billyjoe View PostWas just walking my small puppy and a couple birds were circling above. The bald eagles are much more protected than the people around here. Attempt to murder a person and you'll do less time than if you mess with an eagle. A couple woods near my house are posted with federal keep out signs "endangered species nesting area" they can get you for a felony if you go in those woods , however, you can trespass on any local farmers land and sue him if you stub your toe on a beer bottle you dropped in the pathway. Do you carry liability insurance to protect yourself against those who recreate on your property ?
