      Thanks for your comment. I would like to hear more people speak out on this (closest without going over). Why is it "bad"? Why is it "good"?

            Agree. The point of a contest like this is akin to golf's nearest-the-pin. Whoever is closest wins, no matter which side o' the hole the ball ends up.

            Dasn't seem logical to me that the below-pictured ball could potentially be beaten by a fringe ball 50 feet away.

                  FWIW ... I'm also not in favor of closest without going over. I only suggested it as a possible tie-breaker, though I think an earlier entry would serve that purpose better.
