Molly asks why, if this is part of the AI boom, it didn't blast off when it IPOed on Sept. 12, but instead until yesterday has been slowly working it's way up. She also warns the IPO lock-up expires on 3/12.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, Feb 9

Well, we are off to a great start. We have 9 picks that are in the money and beating all three of the main indices and 10 picks total in the money. Not bad, pickers. On the leaderboard we have Molly’s ARM perched at number one and looking down on us mere mortals followed by JohnHenry’s FROG in second and Massimo’s TMGEF holding down third. We currently have a slight divergence between the Dow on one hand and the NASDAQ and S&P on the other, but all three indices look poised to move higher still. A big correction is due and will happen sometime along our path, but for now, the bulls rule the day.

Yes, it is, methinks. I should mention that Molly has, in real life, now sold out of ARM. Part of what's happening, as we understand it, is that the Japanese investment company Softbank owns 90% of the ARM shares (or so it is said). They are locked up until at least March 12, the "IPO" having been 9/12/2023. So there are very few shares available for purchase, thus the large increase in price as people chase a scarce resource trying to jump in. What will happen on or after 3/12 is hard to say. I am now going to look at some puts, though.

2024 PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, Feb 16

It was a really good week for our picks. Even though the indices were mostly flat, we now have 10 picks in the green and beating the three major indices. Wow! As for the leaderboard we have Molly’s rocket ship ARM in first followed by John Henry’s FROG in 2nd (with a 36% gain!) and Louetta’s DKNG in 3rd. What are the indices telling me as to where we go from here? Well, they resisted efforts to take things lower several times during week, so there’s still a lot of strength and buying interest. The fade at the end of day Friday was a little disconcerting, though. I’d say, the market is taking a breather here and consolidating gains. It’s either getting ready for another leg up or a correction, so I’m neutral with a wait and see attitude.
