    What a day. The market could be buying the 'C'! This is good. Vector clearly bullish today. I am a bull again.

    GM refused to oblige with a perfect entry, taking 1.4% and 0.7% stops. I'll retreat back to hiding to stalk it once again. Mwahaha.

    Shine of the day was with DHB; provides an outstanding perfect entry today at 8.62, so that long is +6.1% at close.

        Actually, speaking of EFA, does anyone reading this thread participate in TSP?

        (TSP is a retirement savings plan for civilians who are employed by the United States Government and members of the uniformed services. The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, administers the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
        http://www.tsp.gov/)

        If you do participate in TSP, I'm curious what you do to actively manage it? Do you switch your funds around between the different funds to attempt to time the market and maximize growth of your retirement. Are you even aware you can do it!?

        If your funds have been tied up in the F or G funds you may want to consider the I-fund (EFA) channel long I just posted. It might be a good time to transfer over Do your own DD of course , but I'm just highlighting the significant long opportunity now.

          Speaking of good timing: the TSP "C fund" tracks the S&P500 index. Also a channel long on the weekly.

            @dmk112: sorry the ride was so short and unsuccessful. These Qs have been frustrating me for a while now, so you were brave to follow me I'll be looking for a support pattern tomorrow to cover and flip to long. Remember, it's still a potential 'c' entry on the long side, which can be fast up, so be disciplined and take medicine early, ya know.

            Looks like the Fib 50% held... I see the bull suit is back on

            I covered the q's when they broke through thursday's highs.

              Spike, in regard to your entry on DHB, what if you miss the channel, do you wait till it comes back to that point, or if you "chase", how far, 5%?

              Thanks

                      I will chase sometimes, but not a percentage amount; if I do like one so much that I'll chase it, I look for another intraday pattern. This way, I can place a stop in a logical position on the other side of the pattern. I also like intraday S1 and S2.

                      I've been watching DHB for it's entire drop, waiting in ambush with alarms set ready to fire. Today the prey was there for the taking when it dropped very quickly Another valid entry was the ascending triangle breakout I posted. Webs entered around there from memory - although I'm not sure he specifically looked for that. But if you like DHB so much, look tomorrow for an intraday double bottom or inverted SHS.

                        Can you eloborate on those patters, not to familiar with those.

                        Also, I'm not too much of a day trader so I can't watch for intraday patterns. If that's the case, do I set the stop @ channel long?

                          Also, can you tell me if you see any intraday pattern entry for BOOM that ocurred today? It went through about a 5pt swing, had a "hunch" to get in at 31 but no technical reasoning. Also, if you have time (if you don't its fine) can you take a look at PARL and CULS, and let me know if where an entry can (or was) be?

                          Thanks!

                            OK, look on my intraday charts and you will see the horizontal colored lines. These are pivot points.

                            How to Calculate Pivot Points
                            There are several different methods for calculating pivot points, the most common of which is the five-point system. This system uses the previous day's high, low and close, along with two support levels and two resistance levels (totaling five price points) to derive a pivot point. The equations are as follows:
                            R2 = P + (H - L) = P + (R1 - S1)
                            R1 = (P x 2) - L
                            P = (H + L + C) / 3
                            S1 = (P x 2) - H
                            S2 = P - (H - L) = P - (R1 - S1)
                            S1 is the lavender colored line. S2 is the lowest line and is purple. QT calculates the positions of them and automatically puts them on the chart for me

                            If you can't watch for intraday patterns, what you can do is draw the channel the night before, determine a price where the channel will be the next day, then put a limit order in to buy at that point. It would help if that channel touch coincides with S2, such as what happened with DHB today. DHB weekly channel was around 8.60, and intraday S2 was 8.66, and the low of the day turned out to be 8.62. So a limit to buy at S2 8.66 would have gotten a great entry today.

                              I'd say you haven't selected your data provider yet. Go to Options/data sources/quotes and put your provider in there. Really explore the program and read the manual; it is worth it.

                              If you want pivot points, right click your intraday chart and select indicators. Pivot points is one of the indicators. You can choose to label price on them too. There are many other tools too. Impressive program. And their support is great.

                                dmk112,
                                Re WLK chart, nice work.

                                Yes, potential good entry at 30.50ish. I just used an online pivot calculator to determine that intraday S1 for WLK tomorrow is 30.70; S2 is 29.95. Take your pick.

                                Remember, it is really an edge to wait for a pattern, but pivots are good tools. The problem of using a pivot entry is where do you put your stop? With a pattern, I can find a logical stop price. With pivots, I can't. You'll just have to make it a % stop that is within your limits.
