    • Some things I’ve been working on with different time frames.

      1. What is the trend of the futures? I watch $NDX $SPX $SOX.
Fist 3 charts show 3 period shift off Thursday’s close (pink line). Astute trades took short positions just before the close. Also note the STO above the 80 band. Time frame for these charts are 13 minutes. If one wishes to get a longer birds eye switch to 60 minutes. Idea is to take positions based off current trend. Notice the rising blue line and dropping orange line. This is telling the story that something is up and the shorts are happy.

Next chart is the $VIX notice the reversal signal Friday morning. This chart has an inverse effect. When it rises stocks tend to fall.

This info presented suggests to me that trades favored the short side of the market. Yes you can find many stocks that will trend the opposite of the futures, but general assumption is many will fall with the trend.

Oh yea it is easy to look in hind site and say Friday was a good day to go short, but look at the charts. The 3 period shifts often gives an awesome early warning of a trend change. The longer time frames give a nice backdrop to current conditions as well.

My example charts are HOLX. I’ve been looking at this one for a while. Notice the same 3 period shift on Thursday before the close. Also take note of the STO. The moving averages are also indicating something is getting ready to happen. First chart is the birds eye view (60 min.) and the trend indicates some downside is coming. It is trending with the futures. This stock would have been an excellent short play Friday. One could trail this short off the moving averages. Also note a possible small short panic off S1 area. Last candle suggest a possible reversal may be in the near future and also note the STO trying to hook back up from 2.58 (13 min.), and (16.22 60 min.). I expect shorts to cover once the 20 band has been retaken.

one could monitor the 60 min STO. Once it reclaims the 20 band and the moving averages begin to reverse shorts will be gone and or cover and longs might step up to the plate. Also note the futures are in temp oversold and a trader will be alert to either a continuation of the downside or a trend reversal

        • Still playing with HOLX

1st chart the birds eye (60) min. Note STO trying to reclaim the 20 band. Shorts might be getting a little nervous, but the fut’s did not send off many alarms.

Next chart is the set up in a 3 min time frame. Trigger long off 20-band pop. Once entry is taken I then switch to 13 min. chart. Arrows indicate entry/exit. Note the moving averages with 3 period shift.

You can also see how one could have flipped it and went short again, but I did not do this!

          • My test scan shows LTON FUEL and RNT as a few making moves, missed both. Lton would have been a nice play..Scan simply is CMF X zero line.

              • Just curious if anyone other than IIC has a use for the market data I’ve been posting? Thinking about just posting the info once per week. Not sure how much web space I’m eating up on Mr. Market’s site.

                        • Same thing with $NDX. $SOX had a retest yesterday with a possible aggressive short entry today..
